225/50/16 w/ good traction and handling ??
Thursday, June 14, 2007 7:56 PM
I'm looking at a few different tires but I figured getting some opinions may help. Any suggestions ?
I was looking at Falken, BFGoodrich or Kuhmo. I plan on doing some auto-x, but mostly drag racing.
If anyone has pictures of what you are running, post them, please!

I would look into Falken tires very decent.

Falken Azenis RT-615 225/50R16 on all 4's.

If looking for optimum straight line grip in the front then get a pair of BF g-Force T/AŽ Drag Radial 225/50R15 on steelies.

That's the exact combo I'm going with for the street and track. No mags on the Azenis either, going 16" steelies with the sleeper look. Upgrading from a 215/60R14 Drag Radial size up front for the 1/4 racing.

I saw those Falken Azenis RT-615s and they look sweet.
These may be the ones as long as the price is within reason.

If they're gonna be for regular everyday use than get the Falken Ziex-ZE512 tires. Those grip extremely well.

512 is an all season tire, you don't want that just for summer use...

I would also go for the Azenis

try potenza from bfgoodrich, all of us in our team are using it.nice grip for drag.we've tried toyo, kumho, and advan.federal most sucks., don't get fooled from those nice advertisement. am using 205/45/16. i know i should have put 50/16 but looks very thick tires. and 45/16 looks good too, more lowered and nice ride comfort.BUT your speed is a little slower than your speedo.

the RT-615 is a great tire for auto-x but not so good on the straight line, the side wall is too stiff. If you want more straight line i know a lot of the guys around here use the BFG's KDWs and LOVE them. good straight line and perfect for the twisties.

"Potenza" is to "Bridgestone" as "Cavalier" is to "Chevrolet". There's many sub-designations of Potenzas.

RE92 - Junk. Used in all kinds of OE applications. Loud. Not sticky. Crap in wet weather.
G009 - Good middle of the road tire. All are H rated, IIRC. Decent grip, great in snow, not overly loud. If you're just a spirited daily driver, this is a winner.
RE960AS Pole Position - Step up in performance from the G009, but still not a max-performance tire. Better grip, but not as stellar in snow. But, it's a W rated tire with a 40K treadlife warranty.
RE050A Pole Position - Max performance. Not great in rain/snow, but extremely sticky.

2006 tC - Dust Covered, but driven more

I'm currently on BFG G-Force Sports and they have good handling, and traction but then again I'm not boosted....here
are some pics of tread and sidewall.

I'm running inexpensive tires -- Federal's

I'm content w/ the grip. Did a couple runs on 'em in auto-x and held up fine.

My god I installed my new RT-615 in 225/50R16 on all 4's last Thursday, what a crazy performing tire seriously. I'm waiting for my Tein Basic coilover kit to get here and install it as soon as possible but even with the stock suspension setup the Azenis are making this car drive like day and night in comparaison with the stock garbage Goodyear Conquest! Satisfied from A to Z with my purchase.

I had the old Azenis sport and loved them, now the 615 and like them even more. I really wanted the Kumho MX's, based on price and killer reviews. I think you can pick up a set of 225/45/17 for under $400. I couldn't get those in time so I went with the 615's, even though I paid more I'm not disappointed, but I do get to enjoy them year round.

I ran the old style Falken Azenis on my Sunfire for Solo II - Awsome tires. I ran 215-45-16 on stock Sunfire GT wheels.

slvr05cav - I am getting a set of those in 225-40-18's for my new rims! Apparently the new model disperses water out the grooves more effectively than the old style. The old style literally had no grooves on the inside of the tire, so wet traction was terrible. The new model also has a longer tread ware rating, even though they still do not recomend that you use them on the street as it still is a low tire ware rating. lol

I have Yokohama AVS ES100 205/50-16 on the front of my car. they're much better than the stock Goodyear Eagle RS-As, but they're worn out now (but lasted longer than the G/Ys), and will soon replace them with BFG g-force Sport 225/50-16. I have yet to hear a single bad thing about these tires...
