wider tires on stock rims?

I need new tires for my 1999 cavi with 195/65/r15 tires and stock rims. I would like to go to a little wider tire, but don't want it to look ridiculous and stick out past the fenders. What is the widest that can fit on stock rims but still not look bad? I want the same height that the tires are now if possible. thanks!!

Ben, take a look at this tire calculator and plug a few sizes in...

If you have the 6" wide alloy wheels (like the convertible or LS models), try plugging in sizes like 205/60/15 and 225/50/15. Those still say they'll work on a 6" rim and they're close to the same diameter. The 215/55/15 comes out a bit taller. There are several people here that run 225/50/16 tires on the 16" Z24 coupe wheels, but I've not heard of what people use on the 15's. Based on the calculator, I'd look at the 205/60/15 or the 225/55/15 with the latter being very close to stock diameter. That being said, the 225 is a lot of tire for a 6" rim, but it still falls within manufacturer guidelines.
