My 03 Cav has been quiet as a mouse and I have taken a certain amount of pride in the fact that mine is so quiet when I see so many others in here saying how loud theirs is...

Suddenly, out of the blue I am getting a very loud squeaking when I hit bumps. Sounds like its coming from somewhere in the passenger side area.

I took the dash top and radio bezel out, went for a test drive, same sounds.

Is this something that just hits you out of the blue? Maybe a strut or something making the noise?

Any insight greatly appreciated.

Nope, not yet. I'd be scraping every single surface in northern VA! My front valance is very unforgiving...

Mine doesn't squeak, it rattles. Even with the stereo out, the top and front dash covers off, and all the ducting out, I still couldn't find where it was coming from.

Could be your front sway bar bushings. That's what is was on my Z.

squeaks, rattles, get used to it.....especially if u lower and add motor mounts...just gotta get used to it...lol

After I installed my motor mounts (summer) I noticed a squeak from the passenger side of my car and I found my noise was being produced by part of the AC unit... I noticed it a lot more if the AC was being used... I guess I got use to it because I haven't even thought about it until now.

turn the radio up man!

^^^^ that's how I fixed mine, no complaints since.

done right u can get rid of just about any sqeak in the car, but its hard for us to fix when you yourself can't even pinpoint where the sound is coming from. for my dash i stripped it down and put a soft headliner type material around all my ducting pieces and basically any plastic on plastic piece. did the underside of my dash and the backside of most of the platic pieces in the car. this got rid of most of the rattles and sound damping took care of the rest.

yeah mi dash squeaks and rattles like no other. i finally put my airfreshener between the windshield and that plastic thing that i have seen broken on may other j-body.

im also curious what i can do to stop this squeaky nonsense. it is so annoying, and i dont even have a system. feel sorry for those that do. wicky wicky wicky buzz rattle boom wicky wicky bzzzzzzz.. .

I don't even know where to start to find where my squeaks come from...

Guess I'll strip the dash again and drive around with a helper.

it starts squeaking in the winter time for me
other than that its the normal cavalier noises/bumps/rattles

I think T2 has something there, because the weather here is getting colder and there was one day last week when the dash did not squeak, maybe warmer that day?

My car (05 Sunfire) has had various squeeks and rattles ever since I drove it off the lot brand new. Recently the brake pedal has begun to give a loud sqeek every time I press it or release it. I think these annoying sounds are something that is impossible to get away from in a sub-$20,000 car. The sad fact we j-body owners have to accept is that our cars are fairly low quality, especially the interior. This does not apply to the engine and the rest of the mechanics, which are very good and will last forever... But the interior quality is quite low and there's nothing you can do about that.

And I'm 99% sure this squeeking is not coming from the struts or anything like that... It's coming from the interior of the car. It's not serious, just annoying.

everytime you pull off an interior panel add dynomat or a cheaper equivelant to it. not only might you eliminate squeaks, but your car would be way way quieter. maybe a few pounds heavier, but.

also, squeaks come from areas where the plastic rubs agains other plastic in a loose manner. if you tighten chevy interiors too much they will break, like my center consol did.

try to add rubber sticky spacers to your interior peices so they dont rub or chafe on eachother. then make sure they are bolted and spacered snugly.

that should take care of it.
from what i have seen most squeaks come from plastic to metal/glass contact, not plastic to plastic, but the ticking im sure is from anything.

Mine squeaks in the passenger door panel. It is driving me INSANE!! Hope to solve that this weekend though...

do as i suggested it and your car wont rattle. it doesnt even rattle at 140 dbs

about 2 weeks after i drove my 05 cav of the lot. the sunroof rattles all the time its driving me crazy!!! the passanger door panel used to rattle i pulled it off and put a strip of duct tape along the edge. worked great.

if its an 05 u have a warrantee, take it back and demand the dealer fix it.

well i have an 02 and i notice the squeaking- my dad whenever he would be in my car which is rare - he'd always smack the dash i always told him to stop- but that's not why it's squeaking- the squeak is just down right annoying! i dont have my car lowered or anything, no aftermarket vents or anything

im having the same issues with mine and mine is almost factory nothing in the suspension is changed

I first noticed it when I took it on a test drive lol

At the time it was on the driver side and it was a metal sound....like a few 3 inch+ washers were loose bouncing around on top of each other, but it didn't it sporatically.

Now, its a loose plastic sound (since iv'e taken my dash pad off a few times) and when i'm going over rough pavement, the whole dash shakes and rattles. I think my motor mounts might be shot since the car is 10 years old, I dunno.

My car squeaks when I just look at it.
