I honestly would like to think I win the cracked dash contest, as mine is structurally weakened due to all of the cracking it has. Funny thing is, I had the small typical one, then I noticed others, and it had just gotten worse from there. I have NEVER taken this part of the dash apart, all I have is GM to blame for their typical @!#$ty interiors.
I finally found a guy parting out a 2001 sedan, and the dash had NO cracks what-so-ever, $60 later it was mine along with the radio/gauge/HVAC surround, here it is waiting for me to install it in the next week!

Ah yes, the famous center crack, too bad this pic doesn't highlight the 1/8"+ of gap, this is the main flex point of my dash!
Nope that's not a scratch, it's another crack starting to form, luckily this is one of the least noticeable.............

Two cavs and no cracks, I don't want to take the risk with my new one so I checked all the bolts and there were a few that were beyond too tight. I hope I'll be okay.
UPDATE!:
Spent a couple hours today swapping them, had time, kinda warm out, so why not! THIS WAS BEYOND EASY! I don't know, maybe I'm just more mechanically inclined them some, but the only thing semi-difficult is pulling the steering wheel, but if you have the puller even that's easy.

Yeah my stock cavy dash had t cracks in the center and when i removed the whole dash to do the sunfire swap i found a bunch more, no wonder it sweaked and rattled so much, The sunfire dash is such a better design and looks much better too.
Yeah i drobe with no dash on my car just that tubular supper and the guage cluster and the HVAC panel sitting there for almost a month while i was looking for a sunfire dash to do the swap.
My car got broke into and my sterio got stolen and they broke the dash very badly getting it out so i just gutted everything i was so pissed.

Pshhh... You don't want to see my dash. Of course it isn't a j-body so my entry is void, but I think I would win if it was a general dash cracked contest.
Holy @!#$, new dash made my car feel a ton better, I can drive without the radio and not go insane...............
Big improvement, a lot of the noise I had related to suspension also ended up being the dash issues, so my car isn't as bad as I had thought....awww good j-body!
Found a small one on the new one (hidden), but I melted the 2 pieces together with a butane torch, then added epoxy to build that spot back up.

hah! i just came inside after cleaning the inside of my car i noticed a crack in my f-ing dash right up by that center vent... i've take my dash apart 3 times but never that piece.... grrrrr. and i never noticed the crack until now which means it appeared in the last 2-3 weeks.
slowly but surely...

I wonder if it has anything to do with the climate the car is in, seems cars from up north dont have the problem as much as us southern guys do.
When i bought my car in Nov 2002 it was just over 3 years old, bought new here in the Houston area and had 52K miles on it and was already cracked, and i get a horrible whistling sound that sounds like its coming from the widshield area at speeds above 80 sometimes, but not all the time, i have not been able to track down the exact spot.
My windsheild has been replaced before and is cracked sincei bought the car, so i want to to have the windsheild replaced and im hoping thats the problem.

my cavi has three cracks right in the center. two all the way through the piece and one half way through. i'm in Wisconsin too and have seen my far share of Cavaliers with the cracking issue.

i wonder if its the flex of the chassis when cornering. i mean if the whole car flexes and the dash is solid, why wouldnt it crack?
also if you drill a small hole right in the edge of the crack

this will prevent the stress being created right in the plastic and will be 125 times harder to crack, as statistics say.

I NEVER drive the 99 and when I was packing things in it to move to PHX I noticed a nice crack that's about 1/2" from being all the way through.
