How To Remove A-Pillars
Saturday, December 31, 2005 2:07 PM
How would I do this? Is it as easy as pulling them off or do I need a tool to remove them? The reason I want to remove them is that when I got my radio installed a couple of years ago, Best Buy damaged both A-Pillars (didn't realized they needed to remove the A-Pillars to access the factory radio) and I want to take them off to see what's broken (inside) and how many clips I will need to pick up to replace it.

Oh yeah before any one asks or says anything, I did point out after the install that A-Pillars and the dash trim piece (notorious for breaking after several years of sun and wear & tear) were not sitting right on the car correctly. I stood their and argued the state of my car until they closed (car was brand new, less than 2 months old when I had them install my radio) and returned the next day at their request for them to fix my interior to which they didn't saying the form I signed (had to sign in order to get the keys to my car back) stated there was no damage to my car from their install and so forth. I also figured suing them would hurt me more financially they it would them, so I just left the car in the condition it was after Best Buy @!#$ it up for the past two years, now I want to see if I can fix these things on my own.

I skimmed the ultimate newbie guide and did a seach for "pillars," "a-pillars" and nothing came up for what I wanted other than carbon fiber b-pillars and gauge pods.

Thanks for any assistance one can provide.

yep give em a goof yank and they will go POP! that pretty much goes for all the interior pieces, if you see no screws it probably comes off with a good yank.

Seriously, I have absolutely no ideal. Like I said, when I got the car everything was fit and snug together as it can be (for a Cavalier). I got my head unit had them install it (since it was a free service for radios $99 and up) and when I got my car back, that's when I notice all of these cosmetic problems with the interior of my car. The A-Pillars look like they lost/broke a few clips as they sit rather loosely (if you touch them, they move around). The trim piece (or maybe the dash in general) isn't sitting flush or in the right positiion as the black line on the bottom of the windshield is vaguely visible on the driver's side but become more prominent as you reach the passenger's side. The panels on the side of the glove box looked like they took a flat head screw driver and tried to pry it off.

Funny thing is that they tried to say my car was in that shape when I brought it to them, but like I said, my car was brand new off the show room floor (literally) and nothing was cosmetically wrong with the interior of my car.

The worst installation of a radio I have ever had in my life (they killed my first head unit when I got my Music Keg installed by them as well...stated that the damage to the head unit was a "factory defect" and that I need to contact Kenwood for a replacement, however Kenwood ended up slapping down their stupidity and got me a replacement of greater value that same day from the store). Best Buy will not install anything else in any of my cars in the future.

thats why i'll never let a best buy "tech" (lol) touch my car. the previous owner of my car had best buy install a head unit and the first time i took the dash apart, oh boy what a surprise did i find.

The Car Audio guy at my Best Buy is a complete jerk, so I went to Circuit City and had them install my deck. I took it apart a few months later, and it was a nice clean install.

I no longer trust any place that doesn't solely deal with audio. Don't know if you guys have Tweeter near you but they are the best that I've dealt with so far. They helped me set up my entire audio system without charging me.

To answer your question..same as everyone else..they should just pop right off. If they're loose then they might have broken the clips that hold it in place. Take a look; if they broke them then you can pick up some new ones for cheap.

Blown.

Best Buy sux, there a bunch of freakin liars. I bought my xplode amp from them. I hooked it up and it would not work for anything. I had it set up perfect, i had 3 differnt people look at it and say it was a blown amp, so i took it back to Best Buy to try and exchange it. So they put it on the bench and came back and said it was blown. I was like "I know, thats why i brought it back" I even had their 4 year warranty thing, so they proceeded to try to tell me it was my fault and i blew it and was trying to scam them. So, to make a long story short, i had to buy a new amp (not from them of course) and got kicked out of best buy.
