Custom E-Brake?
Tuesday, January 10, 2006 11:32 AM
Does any one have a custom e-brake? I'm talking about having a shortened handle with a custom knob/button/trigger or whatever. It seems like the e-brake gets no love....
Has anyone allready done some thing like that? I think it would look cool to shorten it. I might try it myself, A trip to the junkyard and I can have some fun.

It'd be an interesting mod. The e-brake on a Cavalier is long as hell, lol. My friends Ebrake in his mazda 3 is literally half the size of it.

touche....but the shifter is giant dildo

i could care less about how long/short the e-brake is

Shortening the sifter also helps with the shifting because it is a shorter throw. Shortening the e brake would be different though.

I haven't seen any in a jbody, but I know in Mustangs, alot of people change their ebrakes. I've seen chrome ones, and fiberglassed. They are pretty cool. One guy fiberglassed over his, and had it airbrushed. check out
www.corral.net

There is a sweet brushed alloy one that looks like a hand saw on there. I don't rember where exactly on that forum it was... I'll look into it.

I've seen a stick shift cut and had a joystick of a p-51 mustang (WW.ll) welded on. The e-brake was a gun barrel. on a camaro. but the e-brake is never really looked that. i say do it !

i'm thinking most people dont change the cavy/sunfire ones because they are all welded in and to swap it out you need to hack saw it and weld on a new one instead of just swapping it out like alot of other cars ahve

thats what a short shifter does. shortening the shifter itself (ie. hacking an inch off) will not do the same thing.

the reason most people dont do the ebrake is because like said above, its all one piece and in order to replace it you have to cut it off

phatcav,
Kinda like that but a little more "custom" done to it. I'm not trying to put down your setup(i love your car) , I just want something a little more unique. Shorter with a pistol grip or something crazy like that

I'm not worried, I have a dremel, welder, hacksaws, and grinders galore! And it would be truly custom. It couldn't take that long.

Now, just to find a used e-brake....will all handle assemblys from 95-05 swap out????

So the only way to do this is totally hack off the shifter and weld on a new one? Havent taken apart my center consol as of yet so I have no clue....

Next queston: Will any other ebrake weld in there. Welding is the easy part. Just wanna know before I start hacking it up if the one I have will work.

You don't have to cut the entire metal lever off. All you have to do is cut the plastic e-brake handle off. I received these instructions from phlatcav.

this is what is underneath the plastic handle:

this is what the plastic handle looked like after I removed it:

I am currently awaiting the fabrication of a custom billet e-brake handle that will match my shift knob.

sweetness that is tight

so the ebrake handles dont come off unless you cut them?
weird

I agree. I can't wait to see it. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to finish. I should hopefully have it installed by the time the JCO Bash rolls around in June *crosses fingers*.

Once the plastic is cut of, what kind of fabrication does it take to get an aftermarket handle on there? Is the plastic button permanently attached there?

Thanks

So it's doable, great!
Thank you for the pic iKe.

This gets asked a lot, I noticed the sticky doesn't have much info on this and this thread here was pretty to the point. Perhaps some of this should be in there.

possibly its the same concept as the short throw shifter, the new short throw ebrake, you can pull it quicker and stop faster in case of emergency, LMAO!!!!! Someone should make these, i think alot of kids would go for it
