I have a 97 cav and i was looking at the cavs made in the 2000's and i notice that the heating controls and the radio are opopsite to my cav. i want to know if i can put a 2002 plastic trim on my 97 cav so i can raise my deck up and make my controls on the bottom. i need to know if this can be done ????
PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INFO ON THIS !!!!
whole dash swap quite a bit of work but doable in a day.
you don't have to swap the whole dash. if you have an aftermarket head unit it may fit in the hole you have for the HVAC controls. then all you would need to do would be make some mounting brackets for the HVAC controls and Head Unit for the new size holes they would be in.

SO EVERYTHING!
so your guys are saying the big main trim piece tha goes around the cluster area then comes over and goes around the hvac and cd player area on a 97 cav will not be the same as say a 2002 cav ?? they look the same, only thing i see different is the switch in positions between the controls and spot for the stock cd player
honestly i think it would work it's all a matter of how the actual dash lays out... for an 02 there is a bigger opening on top for the radio... maybe on yours the bigger area ia on bottom... all depends on the layout of the dash... only my guess....
ok
in 95-99 cavs the HVAC was on top and the CD/Radio was on the bottom
therefore, a larger hole was in the bottom
in 00+ cavs the Radio was on top and the HVAC on the bottom, therefore, bigger hole up top
swaps have been done but you have to use an aftermarket HU
the HVAC is basically the size of a single DIN so putting an aftermarket HU there would only require making something to screw it down with, same thing to put the HVAC up top or below, you just have to find something to fill the space
and since the HVAC and the Radio are different sizes, the trim pieces on each model are different
It seems like a HUGE waste of time and effort to me. Who cares which one is on top?
I do....I hate hitting the shifter everytime I want to put a CD in. It is in the way. And quick glances to see what track you are on are not so quick. Would be easier if it was up higher.
the 2000 + is about 3 inches longer and about a inch wider. it will not work without a full conversion.
