WINDOW CRANK REMOVAL
Thursday, January 19, 2006 4:44 PM
Hey, i am sorry for posting this as a new topic; i know there was a topic about this already; i checked the first 6-7 pages of this forum, and tried a search; i can't find the topic, i had seen it before.
Anyhow; i want to remove my window cranks (window handles) to paint them; and i read before you use a rag and slide it down and a little c clip pops out and the carnk comes off; well this worked great for my first handle; i put it on and took it off three times in a row just to see if i could get it back on properally.
My other crank on the drivers side wont budge for me at all; i tried for at least an hour slipping the rag down between the crank and panel; i tried useing a flat head and trying to see the clip and poke it off; i just cant get it off.
Anyone have this problem with one of their window cranks when removing it?
Just wondering is there anything else i can do to remove this crank?
Thanks for any help

You can use a window crank remover tool.. instead of the rag idea.. I used to use teh same method till i bought that and its alot easier in my opinion because the clip doesnt move that much while using the rag method with the tool it just pushes it c clip up with ease..they only go for i think 15 dollars at pep boys or autozone

I've had that happen to me using the rag method. If you turn the crank handle pointing up then pull towards you gingerly you can see the slot to where the c clip goes over. I had pulled mine like half way out on the first pass and could'nt get the rag to grab it nor the crank to come off. Ended up getting it off after I could see where it was at. Hope this help's ya out.

Thnaks this does help, once you seen where it was at; did you still use the rag to get the clip to come the rest of the way off?
I tried useing a flat head screwdriver ; but i cant get the head in there on the right angle to contact the clip; i will have to try the handle facing up later on today.
Thanks buddy

I had the same problem when I went to take off mine. I grabbed a butter knife and applied a lot of pressure. The c clip popped right out.

Hope that helps.

Did you apply pressure to the c-clip, or to the crank arm?
Thanks, you also helped me; you guys are great, thanks

I had problems removing the window crank myself. I just ended up using a butter knife from the kitchen. It turned out to work great because it is so thin.

Did you get it? and yes I ended up pushing the clip out with a flat head,it just popped right off. I have a painted interior so rag's are all I use to take the window crank off. It's only happend once with it not wanting to come off.

Try putting the knob of the crank at 12 o'clock position, pull back on the crank (not to hard) and put the butter knife straight down to where the tip of the knife would be at 6 o'clock. Apply pressure dont hesitate to put a lot of pressure on the c clip. Pull back on the crank just enough so that you can see the c clip.

Hey, i removed and paintted my rear windown cranks, no probelm, i used a rag for one side, and the two flatheads for the other side.
I have a 4-d00r 98 sunfire; my problem now is that i went to remove my front window cranks and they appear to be different, is this the case with sedans; i dont see no clips around the crank like on the back door ones; i tried the rag, nothing and i see no little clips, so i am lost on how to remove my front door window cranks on my sedan.
Anyone with a sedan remove theirs, if so how?
Thank's..

Did you all paint these the same way as the rest of the plastic in the car? I know the process for the painting, I was just wondering if there is anything else that needs to be done to these. Do you have to take them apart to do it? I'd like to pant mine to match my car, and since they are already out of the car I'd like to do it now. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have a sedan, if so tell us how to remove the windown cranks; i take it you dont have a sedan because you dont have a answer besides by the tool; wich i did last weekend and tried it, nothing; the tool is no good to me when i see no clips to remove; yes the back doors were a sinch; you could see the clips; the front are different.
Anyone with a sunfire sedan that knows how to remove the front door window cranks please post here; thanks very much.

i do indeed have a coupe

but my best friend as an 03 cav. sedan

and guess who convinced me to use the tool? hmm..? wanna take a guess?....

its simple...tell me..did you actually "see" the clips on the rear doors? im guessing your either:

a) impatient

or

b) not using the tool correctly...

btw--i corrected your spellings...
