I have a '99 2200 w/o a tach, and im looking to do a '00 gauge cluster swap w/ a tach. Yes i know i owna '99 & a '00 so i know the clusters are different. I understand that. And I know that we can get this to work, but i know it's not just pull our & plug in. Have any of you tried this? j/w. I'll figure it out on my own if i have to. Just looking for some experiance and guidance on this matter. Anyone Got any "postive" comments?

If memory serves me right, the milage was stored in the cluster, not the ECM in the 98-99 series. whereas in the 00's and up were stored in the ECM, so swapping 00 and up is fine, but 95-99 can only swap cavalier to cavalier and sunfire to sunfire unless one rewires the the harness connector for the opposite car. But to my knowledge to goto a 00, one would have to totally rewire the car and that is mega $$
Yup...
98 and 99 digital clusters have the mileage stored in the cluster. In 2000, its stored in the BCM. So unless you wire in a BCM, program it with your mileage, swap your wiring and ECU to a 2k+, then you won't be able to do this swap, its that simple. You CANNOT make a 2k cluster work on a 99-. The 2k cluster communicates with the BCM, if the BCM isn't there, then the cluster won't work.

not to jack the thread or anything,
so i can go from a 96 stock cluster w/o tach to a 99 cluster with tach with out any problems?
also would i beable to change the millage on the 99 cluster to match my current millage?
will i need anything to make the tach work?
I'd get a 98 with mechanical odometer, then you just have to swap the tumblers over from your old cluster. You can't change the mileage on the 99. The tach would work from just plugging it in, no rewiring or anything.
You would have to reprogram the theftlock, the instructions are in the FAQ.

it's worth it to be, b/c it's clean and the gauges look nicer. Price isnt a big deal, neither is time. I got tired of the tach i had, i liked it but i just want somthing stock and nice looking.

If i but a cavalier with a 2.2 engine and it doesnt have a rpm gauge what can i do to get a rpm gauge?
Its a 1996 and thanks for the reply
Get one with a tach out of a 96-98, mechanical odometer. You can take the back of the cluster apart and swap the tumblers out of your old cluster into your new one. Then put the cluster in your car and follow the theftlock instructions in the FAQ at the top of this page.

or he could get the tach adapter and put a pizza cutter on his dash. not that i'm saying he should but if he would want to he COULD do that.
