passenger seat problem

i have a 91 z24 and my passenger seat wont lock in the upright position. the little button at theback of the sear is either broken on the inside or something is just not aligned properly. when u hit the button you can push the seat foward aswell as the back part of the seat so someone can climb into theback. the problem with mine is that it moves like that without even touch the button. any info is greatly appreciated

With the button not working or the locking mechanism either worn or broken, obviously the seat wouldn't lock in the back position which is somewhat important. You may be able to pull the seat cover up and take a look at things quite easily (without removing the whole seat). I would recommend fixing it, if you do have a passenger in your car it is a safety issue.

Finding replacement parts or even a replacement seat wouldn't be that hard, especially if you have a "pick a part" type of wrecker locally. I'm sure there would be an abundance of wrecked cavaliers as there are many at our local wreckers.
