Sunday, January 29, 2006 8:26 AM
Ok i had best buy put in my cd player..when i got the car back i realized something, the fuel and temp gauges light up fine from 0-49 on the speedo are dimmer than they should be at night...as is 5-7 on the RPM's..ive tried smackin the dash..love tap, everything and nothins worked...how many bulbs are back there and might i have one or 2 blown ones...if so how easy are they to fix, are we talkin takin off the whole dash or just the radio bezel

sence your working with the cluster you will have to take off the hole thing unless you have skinny hands and arms. im not very familier with the 00's but some people say you cant really do it because of a needle problem.. but corect me if im wrong.

See your main problem is that right there.
After we get past that, i would take it back to them and tell them they installed it wrong.
The only thing i can think of would be that they tapped into the wrong wire for the main power or memory keeper power.

sounds like its time for a new cluster

the 00-05 dont have changeable lights like the 99-older do

its prob just a coincinceidence , that they went out out

or they love tapped it a different way

It still might not be just the bulbs but if it is then yep, new cluster.

I hope this isn't correct, well actually i do hope its right because i could use a laugh and it'd be an easy fix. I don't know about your year and if u have one, but if you do, are you sure the dimmer switch just isn't turned all the way up???

on my cluster I believe there are 5 bulbs back there.

they are held in by a green socket that you can twist out. You can replace them. You simply twist off the old one and twist on the new one.

On the 2000 cavi the bulbs dont twist off. their soldered in. But like i said if your willing to try it yourself all you have to do is heat up the existing welds to pull the light out then solder in new ones. I ordered some new red leds and im gonna try putting those in.

Have you tried to see if it works with the radio turned off? Or when in the process of taking the gauges out, try disconecting the radio and seeing if it still does it. Like was said above. They most likely tapped into the wrong wire.

The radio has no corolation to the dash lights, if it would then you would either have all of the bulbs light up, or none of the bulbs. The problem lies within your cluster. And it's probably just a coincidence...... and theres nothing Best Buy could do, or would do besides short of buying you a new cluster and have the dealeship install it for you. ( most likely they won't )

dont listen to them ... i just did two of them today! I'm writing a stick for those how dont know how to do this... but yes you can. Most people fallow the way in the stick already here and they take the needles off and so on and so forth ... thus f'n the hole thing up. You can change them by take the hole thing out of the car... and takeing the back off of the cluster... there will be 4 -5 bulbs depending on if you have a tach or not. Then you twist those off and ya you will have to see the stick once i finish it... it should be up shortly depending on if i get bugged my rents. so hold tight!
