First Fiberglass Project
Sunday, February 12, 2006 6:36 PM
alright i'm really new at this whole car-project thing. at first everything looked realllll tacky... i hated everything. i had a bunch of neons with wires showing everywhere and they were all hooked up to the cigarette lighter...

since them i've come to my senses and finished my first fiberglass project. it's small and i think i'm going to do a new one... because i don't like the ridges on the outsides of the switch panel. can you guys just make sure i'm doing the fiberglassing steps right? i would much rather like to know i'm at least doing something right before i go hop into fiberglassing a sub box... THANKS GUYS!

first i drilled some holes into the plastic so the fiberglass sticks better. then i layed down only three layers of glass because it's not like it will be undergoing a lot of pressure or anything...

then i layed down a nice layer of bondo filler

then sanded her down...

this was some sort of finisher-filler stuff... fills in all the stuff even the filler misses... real nice

sanded it down again...

cleaned it off with Goo Gone and alcohol

sawed off the bottom so the wires could come up from underneath

drilled 2 holes for the switches...

test fitted just to make sure

time for the primer

just making sure it still fit with no problems...

added 3 coats of silver then layed down a few clear coats and this was the result...

like i said i'm going to redue it pretty soon because i'm not too fond of the ridges... but other than that how does it look? did i take all the steps of glassing?
