You may be able to put it on, but neither of the airbags will work.

wouldn't GM use the same plug, and yellow donut looking thing around the hub, that they have used for at least the last 5 years, in most of their cars ????

I don't think the plug is the issue, even with the current airbags, if you buy them you need both of them plus the controller, which are coded to the airbags I believe. Even if you got both airbags to mount into the cav dash, and mounted the new controller in, it would still probably not work, since the Cobalts are CAN and J's are VPW as far as the communication between them and the BCM or ECU goes.

Not to high-jack the thread...
Shifted,
Can a airbag from a 1999 Sunfire work on a 2000? Do you know if the clockspring on both are the same? Any info?

I ask because I am tring to adapt the steering wheel radio controls on mines. If it doesn't work, I'll have to use plan-B instead.

and thanks.

I don't think it will, the 2000+ communicate with the BCM, you might be able to get away with it if you wire it up like the old one. You might want to talk to SunfighterGT about what it takes to work with those controls, I know he did something similar.

So will a 1995 - 2002 Sunfire wheel fit in a 2002 Cav and still have the airbags remain functional? I like the look of the 4spoke Sunfire wheels, and was thinking about swapping for one, but would like to keep the airbags functional. They're their for a reason.

I love the fact that just because the cobalt replaced the cavalier that everyone thinks that the parts are interchangable and can bolt onto one anouther.

Well It's not the fact that the cobalt replaced the J its the fact that they are both GM.

I actually had a similar question, but with a Pontiac Vibe Steering wheel (it looks sportier than the Sunfire's), I figured it wouldnt work, as the Vibe is the same thing as a Toyota Matrix. Didnt know theres a different setup otherwise. I would have assumed if it can plug up, it can work.
