HELP with vinyl'ing my door inserts
Thursday, May 25, 2006 1:54 PM
I got the vinyl wrapped nicely and it all trimmed up and everything, but it wont stay in the door.

the insert has an edge on it that you have to fit into the goove in the door. mine wont stay for @!#$. i have tried using super 77 glue, liquid nails, and even some stank ass epoxy. its ok to begin with, but the next mornin i come out, its all messed up. and then when the heat gets to it it looks like @!#$!

i need to know how on earth to get this door insert to stay in there

any help is much appreciated, thanx in advance

When i installed my diamond plate inserts i cut the diamond plate larger then the area to be covered and then i drilled small 1/8 holes right at the edge of the insided of the pocket. The I just used very small clear wire ties and drilled small holes in the flaps on the inside of the door panel and then attach. Its a lil time consuming but if yo do it right it looks great.

o sry guys, im talking about the arm rest pieces...

the bottom is staying in fine because the groove is deeper, but the top keeps coming out i guess because the groove is so shallow.

i thought about drilling a hold in the ridge and holding them in with tie wraps or sumthing, but there's not enough space to do it

i was hoping others could tell me how they got theres to stay in

i used some "Plastic Welder" permatex makes it. It is basically an epoxy meant for plastics. slap some on and use a 20lb weight on the back of the panel and block of wood on the front, havent had a problem in over a year.

This is what I used and I have no problems with it at all, and I live in San DIego. Hot glue, believe it or not. I had a problem with the same exact spot with mine. I took the door panel off and into the garage. Put a very liberal amount of hot glue inside the groove and put my body weight on it for about 5 minutes. That was about 2-3 weeks ago. Not a problem anymore.

Did you remove the carpet? or did ya leave it?

i left it at first, maybe thats why it was acting so terribly...i pulled it off and scraped off the foam from the edges so maybe it will stay on better. tomorrow, ima try it again. hopefully it will work

Let me know. I about to redo mine. and was figuring on leaving the old carpet.

I left the old carpet on so that it would have more of a tighter fit when I put the panel back in. Which it did. Then I added a the hot glue into that groove so that it would hold where you would want it to hold. Alos on the plastic piece itself where that panel goes on, I put hot glue all over the place on that and then that is when I put the hot glue into the groove and placed the panel on.

I took my panel apart, then wrapped it, then reassembled it the same way it was before I took it apart.

Wasn't hard at all, the front doors I use spray glue to hold it in place to the plastic panel.
