Well I'm trying to install a new shift knob in my car and I can't get the damn thing on right. I can get it on, it shifts, but then the keys won't come out because even though the button on the knob has come up, the yellow thing underneath doesnt so the keys wont come out. I take the thing off, then the keys come out. I can't find a medium here, either it will shift and the keys wont come out, or wont shift and the keys come out. Any tips or ideas would be appreciated!
put the knob on so that it shifts but the keys dont come out. make sure its tight but dont tighten it all the way. when you cant pull the keys up. slowy slide the know upwards till the keys come out. you should then be able to shift and take the keys out. tighten and your done. had to do this multiple times.... hope this helps ya
Or.... take off the shift-brake interlock cable from the bottom of the shifter assembly.
Take out the centre console, and pull the cable towards you until it pops off the knob. Then you can pin the yellow rod down, and it won't stop you from removing the key.
You won't have to push the button down to shift... so don't go accidentally knocking it into park while you're driving
I got it to work, it's an ichibahn cruz series shift knob, the rubber peice that holds the shifter in place would make the piece stick. I had to use duct tape (it fixes everything!) and tape around the shifter so that the knob wouldn't move around. Then I used the smallet inside diameter rubber piece and cut it to fit from the top of the metal to almost the top of the yellow button, and cut the top off of it so the yellow shift button was still exposed and above the rubber piece. It was a PITA, hopefully this will help someone else who has the problem when they search cuz it really pissed me off!
