trunk arms

i hope this is in the right spot. i plan on building a nice stereo for the trunk some time and was just wondering what people have done to get ride of those arms. i dont really feel like making openings in the fiberglass "cover" to allow for them.

please post up some pictures of what i could or you did to get ride of those.

thanks.

If you're talking about the spring arms, go to a junkyard that has a cavi convertable and get the trunk arms. They come with gas struts.

NO those dont work, ive already tried.. theyd work if u extended the bracket back more to bolt to the rear deck.. the hinge rubs the trunk..

I looked at using the gas strut setup off a Plymouth Breeze.. it mounts in the trunk jam and then onto the trunk...i can get pix of it tonight if u want to see what im talkin bout

Why not just get the strut assemblies + the brackets and fab them to the existing trunk arm?

heres the hinge/strut setup on a 97 plymouth breeze(cirrus and stratus are the same also)

could prolly get it and make it work with some drilling and bolting.. or just us it as a idea..

sub box will be a 4 cubic foot dual SE12" subs with dual ports. there will also be 3 amps in the trunk as well ... i just wanted to seal off the trunk with a fiberglass wall ... this is why i dont want to have the arms because i dont want those slots like most people ahve with there walls.

stephen ... hat picture didn't work or you forgot to post it up.

any one out there ... can you give me some help? i have some ideas but that would involve me getting into the exterior before i plan to.

i am in the process of figuring out how to mount the vert hinges to the coupe. basically they need to be mounted at the top edge of the trunk (similar to where they are mounted on the vert). there is a lip of thin metal there, basically my idea is to beef up that thin metal (add some steel in there somewhere) and weld them up instead of bolting on. dont forget to grab the mounting pieces that on on the inside of the trunklid where the brackets bolt up. i will post up pics when i eventually get this done

those hinges are like the cobalts ... maybe ill go look at a friends cobalt and possibly pick up a set of those.

you are also forgetting.. the hinges are bulky.. and go down just like the arms do.. so ud still have to put a slot for the hinges.. and it would even be bigger then just having to make a slot for the arms.. i think i might try to do the plymouth breeze thing, just gettin it to attatch to the trunk will need to have some custom work done and what not..

im not super concerned with trunkspace like this guy is. i just like the idea of the vert hinges and they mount to the trunk lid in the stock spot
