Ok..i have a 99 sunfire and i just swapped in a cavie havc so i could change the colors since the sunfires are red...now question is...it glows a greeny blueish stock..is all i have to do is change the lights to blue led's and use the foil on the clear plastic part or will that not shine blue since the normal color is agreeny...i looked though all the old posts but it wasnt really explained..phil
There is actually a massive topic started by "Buzz" which talks about changing HVAC colors, lol
Yes, if you replace the lights behind with blue, green, red, etc LED's, it will shine through as that. You WILL want to do that foil trick though on the clear plastic. It makes the light come out so much more brighter then without. Its just you'll have to cut the foil strategically if you want the little display icons to show up. I personally think it looks better without them, but thats just me.

me too.. loks cleaner and not cluttered..
but yes cvalier guages and hvac had a light green to make it a nicer to look at at night then yellow cuz that what the bulbs light up.. but once u put leds in the green tint is so light it wont effect the color and u wont notice it either.. i used green and it looks great lol
What do you guys mean by the foil trick, i was reading buzz post about this but didnt see anything about a foil trick.

read all the pages..its about half way through...basically put foil on the clear partcept where you want light to shine through..makes it brighter..phil
i have red leds in mine and didnt use any foil and it is nice and bright
The foil trick... Its kind of hard to explain without pics...
Basically, when you take out the HVAC panel, you'll find a big piece of clear/reflector plastic. What you do is wrap the entire piece in foil, and on the side that will be under your knobs, you cut out the circles on that side ONLY so the light comes through to the knobs. The logic behind the trick is that the light will reflect with more focus then before and shine brighter. It works best when your knobs are clear too.
Its like a flashlight. If you have just the bare bulb, light goes everywhere. Surround one half of the bulb with aluminum foil, it directs all the light going that way back the other way, effectively doubling or even tripling the brightness of the light when viewed from the un-foiled direction...
Here, easier for me to dig my picture up again than to find the thread and page with it on it...
That's how I did the foil so the icons still light up.
how hard is it to wire led's into the hvac ? i have a 99 sunfire with clear control knobs and right now with the factory lights it shines clear/white ! can I just wire in any color Led ? do I need any type of resistor ? if so what resistance do I need? thnx.
