Window Tinting
Monday, August 28, 2006 8:35 PM
So my friends at work are saying that my 01 Sunfire GT would look nice with a nice window tint job.

I live in Toronto, so I don't know what are the Laws in legal tints. My friend said I should go complete jet black on the sides and back window, and light tint on the pass/driver windows.

How hard is it to see at night with a dark tint at night? What about the sides?

I have a estimate from a company called http://www.eclipsetint.ca/ for $185 for the job.
I went to Tint King and they said $245.

Anyone have any good examples of perfect tint percentages on tints, and good places to do it?

Thanks!!

I've got 15% on my rear 3 windows (4 door car) and in a dark parking lot I have to stick my head out the window to see to back up. If there's lights, it's dark but not too bad to see.

I have 20% and love it. Not to dark but not to light. Be prepared to get pullover, police use simple violations like tint to get into other things! Go to my site to see pics of mine.

35% is the legal limit in maryland.

if/when i get mine they will be 5-15 for the rear windshield, 15 or 20 for the back quarter windows and 25 for the door windows.

its against the law to tint the front windshield here i think thats federal law...

Unless you are using your car for interstate commerce, federal vehicle law doesn't apply to a car you own.

Sorry to get off topic but these kinds of posts really annoy me.
So to start with a small rant: Don't schools teach basic US government anymore? This is simple constitutional principle. The 10th Amendment states "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

That means that unless the Federal Government is specifically given a power through the Constitution, it doesn't have that power.

Sorry Elias, I didn't mean to pick on you.

I believe the windshield is off limits in every state, but most allow 6-8" from the top (basicly the visor area).

Some states prohibit rear window as well, others have minimum transmission requirements. It is always best to check with your local DMV or police department.

As for my opinion what you should do, I'd say 20-30 on the doors and rear quarters, and no darker than 35 on the rear. The rear will look darker because of the sides being darker, but you really want to avoid affecting your visibility too much.
