i went to the junk yard a week or two ago..and got a cluster out of a 99 sunfire, just like mine...4 speed and digital odo. i went to install it today and it wouldnt fit, or hook up right. any ideas why? i thought it was a direct swap...my cav one the harness goes into the top, the sunfire one goes into the back. please help. i migth have to go try and exhange it at the junk yard or something. i just need to know where i went wrong...

i rewired mine and its working all except the gas gauge off course i might just need to fill up... so it can recalibrate, oh and btw a fire cluster will not fit in a cav dash, to keep it youd have to swap the entire fire dash into your car....
if your wanting to swap clusters id take it back and get one from a cav. it can be a auto or manual doesnt matter they both work....just make sure its a 98-99 digital.
95-99 cav and fire clusters are not interchangeable because they are different shapes and the connectors are different. the 2k+ clusters are the same shape and use the same plugs, therefore making them swappable.
you could repin the connector and make it work but you would still need to deal with the different size issue. with a little creativity you could probably make it fit, if not you'll either need a complete sunfire interior or just swap back to your original cluster
A couple people have gotten the sunfire dash to work with Cav dash. they has to do some cutting etc. to get it to work. I have not take apart my dash but how many wire are in the connector.I have a Sunfire guage siiting in my garage to do the swap when i get a chance
