ive already tapped both cigarette lighters and i don't want to over load them so how would i run a new power wire to the inside, would it be the same as subs, and if then how would you tap off of that. thanks any answers would be nice. thanks
Well, it depends what are using the wire for. If it something small, you can use the constant wire at the lock cylinder.

or you can buy a fused box and run a wire from your battery to the new fuse box then tap in you new power supply
yae all its for is lighting, accelerometer, and some other toys so shouldnt be pulling to much power, but where could i get a fuse distribution block all i could find online is sub ones
you can go to advance auto parts or search the net for fuse distribution block
I only recommend running back to the battery for something big, like an amp. I would not run a wire back for something like that. Use the constant wire, or ignition wire, at the lock cylinder. And make sure to fuse them.
Just running back to the battery for this is too risky, greater chance of fire. And if it is not fused properly.....bad things can happen.....

okay so to do that whats a lock cylinder, and what do you mean by constant wire, and still you would need a fuse distribution block right, and i just got back from radioshack and ato one and both only had a one fuse holder so should i only run one fuse for all the things i have or should i run seperate fuses for each set of lights, and stuff. thanks

It's no riskier then running a wire back for an amp, how is it safe for an amp and risky for something other then an amp? the only thing risky is if the guy does a poor install and that has nothing to do with the fusing. if he does a poor install with that hes just as likely to do a poor install connecting to existing wires. if all his wiring if fused properly there is allot less risk then of him tapping into something else.
eric try to run each wire to a seperate slot because most of your diffrent items will have diffrent sized wires and a diffrent sized fuse on it.
and what do you mean by you can only find sub ones? subs generally arnt fused. or are you talking distribution blocks for stereo use like amps? if so those are what we are talking about. try knuconcepts.com

It's safer for an amp because an amp needs all that juice. A light or neon doesn't need 500+ amps.
Anyways....you do not need to go to the fuse box. Just put a fuse in-line with the wire. If you need to, use two female spade terminals to hold your fuse.
If you drop your steering column shroud, you should see a bunch of wires. Find the thicker wires going to the lock cylinder, where you put your key in. Use a meter to find which wire shows 12V when the car is off. I am not 100% sure, but I think it is a red wire. DOUBLE CHECK IT. Then strip back the insulation, but do not cut the wire, and tap off it.

just because a wire is smaller does not make it safe. both can catch on fire and burn your car down.
in most applications people tend to add things as they go. so down the line he may add more electrical devices to his setup so its just easier to run a larger then needed wire now so you dont have to worry about doing it all over again. and as long as the wire is fused at the battery wich it should be, the size of the wire wont matter at all.
