I'd like to put a tachometer right behind my steering wheel in my '03 so from the driver seat, it covers up the stock tach. Make sense? Problem is, I don't know which size would be best. Can anybody share some pictures of their tachometers in that place?
Also, some pictures of how they are mounted would be great.
the 3inch and change one would prob work

Not to sound mean against you or anything but is there really a reason to have an aftermarket Tach on a street car? Just wondering.
yes because aftermarket tachs are much more accurate than stock tachs and it helps if you have a manual
If Aftermarket tachs are more accurate, why do the automobile manufactures put stock one in their cars?
Also if you are a noob and try to wire up a tach then it will be inaccurate. Not trying to be a dick but do it if it
makes you happy. But it makes no sense ..
I want more accurate tachometer, plus I think it would look cool. Flame away.
But about the original post...
Does anybody have pictures of how one would be mounted?

And if aftermarket exhausts flow better? If aftermarket rims look better?
My guess is that tach in his car cost GM, what, $5 to put in, whereas an Autometer/etc one will cost about $150 or however much. It's just different, with a specific purpose in mind rather than purely saving money.
I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.
Very true J H about the cost value. But I will stick to my Oem tach and the wiring that GM gave us.
I hope Corey doesn't mind me steeling his pic, but this is how I would install it. Very clean look. Instead of a oil pressure gauge, stick a tach in there.

that looks nice, unfortunately I don't have any idea how to do it. Who wants to make me one?

i have the stock tach & the SFAC (which has a built in tach) and both are dead accurate! i dont know where people come off the wall saying the stock one arent accurate enough!
and IMO 5" tach on top of the dash looks retarded, unless its a full on race car!

My Cavy's fuel cut off is at 6900rpm's, and when my rpm's hit that 6900 mark, it cuts off. So I don't see how the stock tach is inaccurate. It gets the job done . . .
the stock tach is inaccurate because it is slower than the engine... well mine is at least
many changes in the making
my favorite part about doing bodywork,.......... bondo bugers
If you you put a tach in that spot you have to deal with your hazzard light switch. Upon veiwing the
location you would cover up your speedometer location. What I guess is the solution is to buy
a rpm shift light and mount it there.

check your @!#$ then because its not supposed to be
my stock tach in my 03 eco is off by 200 rpm's. And it couldn't keep up w/ the engine in first gear during a launch.
And when i'm in neutral and I jab the throttle, the autometer one is waaaaay quicker.
wow so much misinformation in this post ot makes me sick..noobs calling noobs noobs..ahh!.Stock tachs maybe alright for normal stock cars but when you get into huge mods or turbos or n20 cars and such the stock tach cannot keep up to the engine rpm..check the boost forum..alot of those guys have issues with hitting redline when the tach is at 4g rpm..stock accurate i dont think so....so give the guy a break..phil
I used a aftermarket tach in my 5.0L Mustang for the playback feature. Definately helped me find my errors on the track, and improve my 1/4 mile consistency. My bracket race was way more consistent aftewards. Plus the shift light did make a huge difference in it aswell.

its made with a universal single pod that he moulded in. it does look good. and i might think about doing that for my Volt Gauge. hmmmm IDEAS!!
There's pics all over of mine. I think it's EXACTLY what you want.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.
