ok i have a base model 96 cavalier auto with 2.2 it only has 3 guages in the cluster..... ok i bought a cluster out of a wrecked 98 ls cavalier with 2.2 but this cluster has a tach which i was wanting w/o buying a big tach to bolt to my dash so i found an alternative... ok my problem is this when i took my cluster out and put the one with the tach in the car started then shut off shortly after... and the THEFT light started flashting.. and everytime after that when the car starts with that cluster in it dies and wont start again... how can i deactivate the THEFT and use the ls cluster in my cavy? btw it starts and runs fine with the old cluster just not the ls one with the tach bc of the theft ??????

I've never had to deal with this myself, because I've only owned 95 J-Bodies that don't have that system, but there is a how-to in either the FAQ or the library. Look around for it. It basicly involves letting the car shut itself off as it's doing, and leaving the car alone for a period of time without touching anything or shutting the key off. It's not disabling the system, it's learning the new cluster values.
