i saw it on pimp my ride. they put screens and speakers in it.
but they used a machine that flipped the car upside down so the fiberglass could set correctly.
is this possible without a car twirler thing?
another question i have is, can i buy a new headliner from GM? are there aftermarket headliners?
um take the headliner out
fiberglass it
sand it
have fun getting it back in, im almost thinking it is not possible. (i did this)

common sense lacks on the org.
yes just simply remove the headliner and glass it. do not take any idea from pimp my ride (ie not taking the headliner out to glass it)
its been done before on here.. i dont remember who its was but it was red i know that much...
I think what he is getting at is that the headliner will lose it's shape once you take it out.... which is totally possible. Your headliner is molded to shape though so it is pretty unlikely. Just take it out, glass it, test fit it, if it doesn't fit, make little cuts and reglass it, tweak it in small increments until it fits correctly again. You shouldn't need to flip the car upside-down. They probably only did that because they were going to have to make the headliner VERY heavy duty in order to hold up all those heavy things they installed in it... in that case you aren't going to be able to flex the fiberglass liner to get it in correctly... or maybe because it was larger than the opening of the door? I don't know.. didn't watch it.

i personally would put a light layer of resin on it in the car. let it harden a bit so it still holds the basic shape, then pull it out and finish it off.....but thats just me
yeah, i would think that it would warp like hell if you just took the headliner out, and then started dumping resin and fg on it.
My headliner is fiberglassed and i did it out of the car and its not that bad to do. reason pimp my ride flipped the car was because it made good tv. no other reason then that. if you use cheap resin wich is what the most people use (bondo) you will have shrinkage when the fiberglass starts to cure this is how pieces lose their shape. fiberglass cures up to 48 hours even if the piece feels dry it can still shrink on you. this is why when people fiberglass pieces like that that need to fit they put the piece back in the car to cure. i didnt put the piece back in the car and the edges shrunk on me pulling it away from the roof so i had to use hidden screws to hold it up where it belongs. i'd suggest taping the roof up after u take the headliner out. fiberglass it. wait till its dry to the touch, then putting it back up to fully dry and cure. i'd also suggest putting a screw in each corner where your a-pillar and rear side pieces go to make sure it doesnt pull away from you.

so this isn't a job for someone who's just above the novice level.....?

I would suggest doing something else first so you get the hang of it first. Shouldn't be too hard, just gotta replace it and watch the warping/shrinking. I'd recommend what eazy said any applying a layer of resin on it in the car, then removing it, or what sndgood said. Most important thing is to let it dry in the car.
Someone did it with pics, try searching for em.
