Push Button Start
Friday, November 10, 2006 8:18 AM
I am no stranger to this forum, I have had my 97' Cav for about 2 years now, and i've been looking into all sorts of really cool mods. One that peaked my interest is the Push Button Start.
I have looked on ebay but found most are for Civics and high end model cars. Is there a universal push button start for any car? and has anyone done this before? any pictures? i'm really interested... MATTYB

You can get the pivot push button starter. They will work on any car. I've had one in my car for probably 4 years now. Sorry no pictures though.

it all depends how you want to install it. i have the same push button as dave (pics are in my progress thread) but the way he has it hooked up is different than how i have mine wired. i basically removed any need for a key so my install was a little more difficult. i had to bypass the passlock system, wire up a toggle for the accessory position, and then wire the push button into the crank position. i'm honestly not sure how dave has his run, but i know that he still uses the key.

Would it be possible to do what sykeeok did put hide a momentary button under the dash so not jsut anyone can hop in and push the start button and steal your car?

i dont see y not. just do what he did but change the location of the button. i know its possible because when my ignition switch went about a year and a half ago there was a guy that had the same problem but instead of getting a new switch, he wired up a push start button

Lemme try that again. What I ment to say is to wire up the button as shown in the acc plug location. Then wire a momentary switch up that made it so when you push the gnition switch without the momentary switch pushed it wouldn't do anything. Then you push the momentary switch and the ignition and it works like its supposed to. Hope that clears my question up.

all i did was tap into NOT CUT the wires on the ignition so the key still has to be in to start....alll in all a real easy mod ,pep boys has the ignited button and it fits perfectly in the cig. lighter hole, and if you have a radar detector just hard wire it in with your radio and tuck the wire under the dash and it will come on when you start the car>>.>>>just a little FYI

ist an easy setup if you know anything about wiring. if not you can lear what you need if your willing to read a little.
