open the trunk, pull one of the nylon straps hanging from the bottom of the rear deck, get back into the car, pull the seats down.

Read your owner's manual.

This can be done in 10 easy steps.

Step 1: Open the trunk.
Step 2: look along the upper edge of the trunk slightly to the left of the center of the car, you'll see two straps.
Step 3: Pull straps (the one on the left will release the drivers side part of the seat and the one on the right will release the passenger side)
Step 4: Fold down seats
Step 5: Put in large 2x4
Step 6: Drive to the person you bought the car from
Step 7: Take large 2x4 out of trunk
Step 8: Enter person who sold you the car's house (this may require use of 2x4, though this is not it's intended purpose)
Step 9: Find person in house
Step 10: Hit person about the head, neck and shoulders for not having or giving you the owners manual for a vehicle only a couple years old.

Yea, they did this for 03-05. The stupid straps you have to pull for the seats to unlock. The previous Cav models, you just pulled on a small strap on the backseat itself to open them from the inside. I like that a hell of a lot more then mine.

a lot of newer cars are made this way... i think it`s because if somehow (!?) you manage to actually lock yourself in the trunk, you could free yourself easily

Well, thats what the emergency trunk release is for . . . Speaking of, I always get a kick out of it. Seeing the little stick figure picture on that release of him hi-tailing it out of the trunk, LOL

It is more of a security issue.
With the newer the system, one can not just break the glass and pull on the strap to get to your trunk.

That's why I lock mine out.

I also hate the way it can't be folded from the inside. Lots of time I was sitting in my car and wanted something from the trunk (for example I keep a lot of water in there to drink) and it was annoying have to get out of the car and open the trunk.

Anyone know what would be the easiest way to rig it so I can open it from the inside?

Attach a small rope to it, just long enough for you to pull on and tuck it away...???

That would work if you attached it to the strap and ran it under the seat. I guess I'm lucky with the strap on the outside in my car, just don't have a trunk release.
