Fiberglass the radio section

Well I have a 96 cavalier and as you probably know the radio is on the bottom under the hvac vents. Now I wanna relocate the radio to the top and fiberglass it so its sticking out a few inches and tilted towards me. Now ive got a few questions on how to do this. Should I build 2 wooden boxes out of 3/4 mdf and cut away the area in the dash the hvac and radio go and just mold the boxes into the bezel and fiberglass em in and have them pointing the way I want and what not and just use that? are their any other ways you could think of to do that?

i would personally use 1/4" MDF or 1/2" at the absolute most, then round the edges out with a router so it wont be boxey, and then mould it in. just make sure to test fit a few times so u have clearance in the back to fit them at the agle you want
