this weekend ive been trying to finish my dash swap/xm install/ putting car back together. got the dash and everthing in and wired and cap on looks fine. then i went to install the xm and noticed there wasnt a cig lighter. i remeber that i had taped the thing off whenever i had install the dimming switch.
anyway i was just wondering if there was some where else i could find the 2 wires for the old cig adapter and cut them and wire in a cig power port and stuff under dash.
i figured it would be on the drivers side under the hood releaser part but i wasnt sure. all i know is theres 2 wires running to it, an orange and a black. anyone know where these run to from the end part... thanks
Should run to the dash, just to the right of the steering column.
And yeah, its orange and black
to the right... ok ill check tomorrow morning thanks...
ok i went out and looked last night and couldnt find them anywhere...
where can i find these 2 wires again. i looked under the dash by the steering wheel column like you said. didnt see a wiring harness or anything anywhere...
I don't have a Cav interior to reference to, so I'm going off memory. The factory cig lighter is on the bezel, to the right of the steering column (just under the instrument cluster). Depending on where you routed the wires to when you taped them off, they should be around that area. You're going to have to pull the bezel to get to it if your factory cig lighter is still operational.
no i know where the wires are on the dash but where it is now is kinda diffcult to access. i was wondering where they went to before that... like where then run prior to going to the input piece. fuse box? or where? just trying to cut them without taking the dash apart again.
i figured it would be somewhere near the fuse box or something but im not sure. have any ideas?
There's a Cig fuse and from there it goes to the socket.
As far as I know, the only way to get the fuse box out is to take the dash apart. If you can find one of those add-a-circuit things (stupid work computer won't let me search the forums), you can tap it that way. The other thing is if you can find a 12v "hot at all times" wire, you can tap that for what you need.
I have a few bookmarks at home that I can check this evening.
sounds great kardain thanks... i dont realy need it till tomorrow...
im goin to be hooking up the cig lighter power on the bottom of the console for the first time. and i also need a switched 12 v source for the other aux power piece i got for my xm setup... thanks
