You could always sand down the texture on them so they are smooth and then paint so it looks like fiberglass.
well i was trying that and its not sanding down the way i like it. It just doesnt look that great so wat if i covered it in bondo and then sanded that down.

No...
do not coat it in bondo...that stuff will just peel and crack away.
Since it's plastic, just spend the time on sanding it smooth...it will have the same effect as a fiberglass piece, but withough the problems of chipping or cracking on you.
wat grit should i use to sand it donw well the start grit of it

This is my rear panel...I sanded it to almost smooth and then added high build primer to fill the texture and sanded it down.
I didn't sand it to "smooth" either...just scuffed it up, added a plasitc adhesive and then used high build primer, sanded (400/800/1200) and
then 3 coats of paint and 3 coats of clear.
It's been two years and so far no cracks, chips or anything!
Turned out pretty good I think!
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
ya man, you'll be sorry if u body fill it. just sand sand sand. then prime, sand, prime sand until you get the desired texture
would it be allright if just sand with like 180, then plasitc adhesive, high built primer and then paint, like BlueDeuce did but without spending too much time sanding trying to get the plastic smooth???
thanx
That's what I did with the whole interior and I've got many, many comments on how smooth it is and how it looks like I fiberglassed it! (the dash (pad) is FG)
Your choice, but I did mine that way and turned out fine IMO.
Word of caution...don't think this way will cut your sanding time in half! I put in over 150 hours of sanding on my interior! Yes...150 plus hours!
So it's not the fastest way, it's not the only way, it's "a way" to do this.
If you do what you just stated you'll have really bad "orange peel look" or really rough looking paint. The final outcome is all in the prep work!
YOU HAVE TO SAND!!!! AND A LOT OF IT!!!!!!!!!

sanding is the key.. it sux, but it has to be done.if you do it right the first time you wont have to do it over and over agaig. its way worth it. if ur gonna do it u might as well do it right
SOLD....
air powered DA is your best friend!!
hell, even an electric DA
damn that sux i have like a little dremel but i dont know if that will work other than that i will be doing it all by hand

why do you use the plastic adhesive, and how did you put it on? did you use a brush?

Hey...how's it going? Did you get the Cavy going again?
Shoot it with a gun is what I did and the adhesive helps the high build primer stick so there is no cracking or peeling.

Wow I gotta go pick up a mouse sander lol I've been sanding by hand and found it hell. I have a spare set of back panels that I have not yet attempted as I'm currently working on the door guards. Was just curious on how to remove the seatbelts in the rear to install it when I'm finished? The car the back panels came from simply just cut the belts lol There has to be an easier, smarter way to do this.
unbolt the belt from the floor!
hey BlueDeuce did you do all that in germany, if so were did you buy the plastic adhesive at because i dont think i can get that shiped over here so i would have to find it here?

It all unbolts...the pillar bolts and the floor bolts....any local auto store will have the right tool to take them out.
Maybe I misread that....you said you cut the belts?

There's a local place here in Landstuhl that I got all my supplies from...paint, primer, clear...good stuff too! Equal to Dupont!

BlueDeuce, i forgot to tell you about my car. i was heading to your place and i was doing about 100 the hole way there and then it started to misfire and i thought i blew a head gasket, so i had to turn around and head back. when i got back i hooked up my computer and it was my stupid o2 sim, so i cleared it and it was fine. but i was a little worried. i never had it act up that bad before. but i will try to make it out there again. i will email you.

The owner of the car just cut the belts, it was dark and raining and cold, he didn't wanna screw around with it anymore lol The car is long gone to the junkers however so it was stripped for parts and sent to the junk yard. IF it was being kept or sold to someone we would NOT have just cut the belts. When I get my back panels done I will definately be looking for the bolts to unhook mine, I won't be cutting the belts lol
