I had the exact same problem in my 03. I just went and got a seat out of a junkyard for 50 bucks and swapped the back (was gonna just swap the whole seat, but the bottom was soaked and i didn't want a mold problem)

As far as i know, the cover is glued to the foam padding.

You can remove the seat cover, but it is a bit of trouble. First you need to look at the seam at the base of the seat back. It is held together by a plastic tongue and groove clip that runs the width of the seat. You have to pull that apart (I used a flat head screwdriver). Once you get it started you will see how it connects. Next is to pull the seat cover up and over the top of your seat. This is difficult because you may have to make the hole around the lever on the seat back bigger, and the fabric is glued down pretty good , so take it slow and don't tear the foam underneath. If my suspicions are correct you will see that you have broken one of the metal rods that run vertically and connect the main support for the seat. just clip off any sharp protrusion's and use some large zip ties to reattach it to your seat frame. Once you are satisfied with the repair use some spray adhesive from an upholstery shop on the foam on the front of your seat before replacing the material. Otherwise you will have a loosely covered crappy looking seat. The plastic clip can be a struggle to get back together again but just don't give up. I fixed mine about a year ago and I haven't had another problem with it.
