is the 2005 cavalier supposed to have a steering wheel lock or not? all the 03 and 04's i have seen have a steering wheel lock and even my 2005 sunfire has one.
but my 2005 cavalier Z24 doesn't have one.

every one with js i know has a lock including myself i would take it back to the gm dealer any gm dealer can check it out that should be a warranty issue. pretty weird that yours is missing un less u got it used and it had been a theft recovery rebuild rare but possible. if u got it new take it back get them 2 check it out.

are you actually engaging the lock?

shut of the car, take out the key then jerk teh wheel to one side...it will lock

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

^^^^^^^^^ it was sold as the Z24 in Canada. i can turn the wheel a complete circle, theres no way theres a lock on it.

i just assumed there wasn't one on the 03-05 cavalier.

^^^^^^^^ my bumper to bumper warranty in finished. all i have left is drive train. but if its considered a safety feature i might be able to get them to fix it. if not ill pull an 03 column and swap mine.

i might call GM and see if they will honor the repair, if not I'm going to try and fix it. if worse comes to worse I'll replace the column.

thanks for all the input guys.

Also note that if the lock was busted off you should get a new steering column. The force required to break the lock exceeds the column specs, and the Cavalier column doesn't have a slip collar to prevent damage to the assembly. The steering column is one of the top safety critical components in your car. A faulty steering column can kill you in a lot of interesting ways.
