White Face guage malfunction

i got a 98 sunfire 2.4L. i just hooked up my face guage insert that i ordered off ebay and im having some problems. They were working fine for a while. probably for about 30 minutes. then i noticed my speedometer wasnt registering... or my tach. and when i turn the car off my temperature guage shoots back up so i figured i would smack the dash, maybe it would go down. and it started inching its way up...

so here's how i hooked it up. on the headlight switch that controls the cruise control, high beams, and parking and low beam lights, to the left side of the steering column there were like 4 wires. blue, grey, brown, and black. i tapped into the brown wire and grounded my connection to a bolt that holds the steering column. tomorrow i'm probably going to pop the dash back off and look at it some more but any info would be useful. maybe i have a bad power source or something but heres the link to the guage insert:

Make sure the gauges are firm all the way down and not raised a tad which would block the base of the needles from moving freely. Also, did you move any of the needles when you installed them?? If you did, you have to make sure you move them back to the way they were before you moved them. Also, did you remove the needles at any point?

yeah the base of the needles are probably rubbing. but no i never removed the needles. just pointed them all up and to the right and slid the insert throught the holes. but like i said, later today i'm going to remove the dash and check it out. thanks
