I have it in my car and love it. As soon as you bolt it in you'll notice the chassis stiffens up quite a bit, body flex is really decreased. For safety reasons you will not want to put people in your back seat anymore.
do you have any pictures? I'd liek to see the actual product not the genaric this is a roll bar pic. But it is dirrect bolt in? no cuting or welding needed? and it will be for my tan cav... it doesn't get back seat passengers ever. but thank you fo the info
I don't have detailed pics of it, but that generic photo is about 95% accurate. It is bolt in, you can weld it if you want, but it is not necessary for 99% of the people out there. The only cutting needed is the plastic trim pieces in the back seat and then it's only 2 holes and trim the carpet for the foot pads. Look through the gallery at the 03 SEMA pics and there's prob some in there.
I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty certain you can retain the passenger seat (like 85-90%sure). I don't believe you need a SCCA rated roll bar until you get to the Rally or Club Racing levels. Fixed roof coupes don't need a roll bar for SOLO, obviously convertibles are supposed to at a certain point. Keep in mind I don't know the SCCA rules to a 'T' so double check anything I say on that.
Oh and if you go with the race one spend the extra $90 to get the bolt in cross brace (BICB). It'll make life easier if you ever need to get to stuff in the back seat. If you don't get it there's probably a time or two you're going to need to remove the whole rollbar to do some stupid task in the back.
I don't "need" a roll bar for what I'm gonna be doing but at the same time if I'm gonna soend the money why not spend a little bit more for somethign that meets their standards. If its safe enough for SCCA then its safe enough for me
what do I need to do to get a price quote shipped on the race bar?
the jegs roll bar is a lot cheaper, the only downside is it has to be welded in, and assembled by you
just thought i'd mention
I can't wait to see the GTC when its done personally
Price is on the website and shipping is freight collect and ships truck freight. You pay for shipping when its delivered and usually is in the $140-175 range. It should be on the lower end if it goes to a business and higher end if it's a residence.
Heres the one Im going to use in my black car, its the 6th one down on the page
S&W Roll Bar
.
Yes i have the autopower bar...... it is completely bolt in
the hardest part is cutting the holes in the rear side panels in the exact place
other than that its pretty straight forward
I haven't tested this therory, but I've heard a paper towel tube is about the same diameter and can be used to extend the upright bar down to use as a template on where to cut the panels.

damn.... i really wish i would have thought of that
Sounds like an awesome theory, PVC pipe would work just as well.

x2
you can get one shipped for around $100 less than what gravana retails the autopower one for. and since you assemble it yourself, you can choose to keep or leave the two front legs
the two bad things I've heard about the autopower is that it doesn't come near the roof of the car, that it doesn't go above your head. And the other is that its not actually certified by anyone for anything. Thats what giving me second thoughts about it. I want it to stiffen up the chassis and have a place for the harnesses to mount but at the same time if I'm gonna spend this much money for it why not just do it "right" rather then convenient.
I'm gonna look into the certification stuff some more. If it is in fact a certifed bar I think I will go with the Autopower race bar, especially since we now have a dealer acount with them I can pick one up for less then going through Gravana.
^^^really?? it doesnt even come upto the head of the driver/pass?
from what I've heard its about 4 inches or so down from the roof of the car.... I'm about 6'2" when I don't gangster lean when I drive so my head is MAYBE an inch form the headliner.
hmmm, that sux, im looking for a setup thats as close to the roof as possible, as i assume you are too
