Got a couple of new gauges
Thursday, November 08, 2007 1:50 PM
I picked up a couple of "Swoosh" gauges and a two-gauge pod from eBay. I wanted a voltmeter, and picked up an oil pressure as well -- though I still need to install the sending unit. They look better than I expected, and they have some nice features as well. The oddest is a mode where get gets feedback from an included microphone to flash the backlight to your music. I've seen this done poorly before, and the effect is excellent with these. They look pretty decent with a modified-backlight stock cluster too.

My main reason for this was that I wanted to use a gauge for video evidence while checking the difference made by a "big-three" electrical upgrade in handling my stereo equipment. It should do nicely. Feedback appreciated.

Man I love that cluster.

Does it fade red to blue intentionally?

I left a red LED in the far-right socket so that it looks kind of like it fades into the redline on the tach. It actually works pretty well, and the color change shows through the needle too -- kind of like a Euro-guage.

Man those gauges sure look nice, good job with the dash color. I´ve been thinking on adding a volt and oil press also, let us know how they work and how hard it is to install the sending units.

Quite good. The pic above may be in overcast light, but it is daytime. In full sun, the plastic shades help to cut down glare. The gauge's own lighting is impressively bright, so legibility hasn't been a problem in any full-sunlight so far. You would be more likely to adjust them to make them dimmer, such as in a night situation. It's also handy that the white-text backlight and the blue-halo backlights are adjustable seperately.

I'll probably try for more pictures next week once I get the oil pressure sending unit installed.
