Custom fiberglass rear dash
Friday, November 23, 2007 4:00 AM
Ive been wanting to do this for a long time now but i can't come up with and idea that would look good. I have 2 pioneer 6x9 in the rear dash which i top mounted (cut holes in the dash.....bad idea) and it looks horrible. I didn't realize the speaker mounts were off center until i cut them out. I can't even screw all the screws in the speaker grills because the back window is in the way. dos anyone have any pic of a custom figerglass rear dash or any ideas of how i could fix this problem with out buying a new dash.

thanks

Chris

make rings to fit the 6x9's, mount in preferred place, then glass.

Stubby Screwdriver FTW...

Seriously, that's what I used for all the screws in mine. But if you're deadset on glassing the rear deck, then Joey stated the simplest way.

Thanks for the replies. I tried a stubby screwdriver and still couldn't do it. Its really cramped back there. If I were to take the rear dash out and tear off the carpet then recarpet right over the holes do you think it would be noticable (would it dip down where the holes are)? I want to glass it but i have absolutly no experience working with fiberglass. Is there any good how-tos out there specifically for the rear dash?

thanks again

I dont have finished pics but, http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2679171/3

Im not sure where the pics went, it's been done for months now lol.

I ended up carpeting it to match my box and carpet, looks great and fits perfect.

I'm willing to sell it, but i bet shipping would be a lot. Its bulky, not so heavy though.

The dash is a good starter glass project, its not to complex, and it the end result is seen often, giving large satisfaction (if you do it so it looks nice)

I cut a big ass wooden dowel into pieces that I mounted underneath the mounting points for my speakers. Took a few sheet metal screws and mounted them underneath to prevent rattling.

Here's a couple of really, really old shots.

I'll see if I can get better pictures tomorrow, but my box is pretty in the way.

That doesn't look too bad! I like the change in sound staging that you get when you tilt the speakers forward, The reflection is a bit different.

I may be totally off on that statement, but i did notice a change.

To be honest, it was only T shirt Fabric from Walmart. 1.50 a yard.

It worked ok, but use good resin so it doesnt shrink on you!
