Long day yesteray/prepping car for paint
Sunday, April 16, 2006 5:55 AM
Well after a long day yesterday, i managed to get alot done on my car, getting it ready for paint. I spent most of the day using the brown 3m scotchbrite pads with some ppg sanding paste on the whole car. I got alot of stuff taped off but still have some to go like wheels, drivers side door, and motor, then im read to shoot the primer and paint will come next weekend. I will be using ppg stock red paint with clear coat. I tell you what yesterday was a hot day here in texas, it ended up being about 94 degrees. Well enough talking and off with the pics. As the work progresses i will have more pics. Im hoping to finish taping the car off today and shoot the primer during the week sometime and then real paint will come next saturday.

Enjoy everyone!

nice, i know the feeling.of preping. I just painted my front and rear bumpers on my prelude and blended the rear quarter. Only took me about 6 hours to get the paint to match. I should just ainte the whole car. Just curious why didnt you just use a piece of paper on the sunroof lol?

What primer are you using on the car? And if your looking for a good clear, try PPGs DC3000. Its a bit pricey but very forgiving if youve never sprayed before, though you do look like ya know what your doing lol.

well to be honest, my friend from the org came over and helped me yesterday and he taped the sunroof and i aske dhim why, and he said cause paint can go through newspaper alittle. If it would of been me taping that part, i would of used newspaper. Yeah i know what im doing, i use to help out at a body shop in michigan when i was home for college during the summer and i learned alot. Really painting is the easier its all the prepping that really counts. You dont prep it right then its hard to come out with a good quality paint job. See my goal in this is to prep it full so when i spray primer, i will just use scotchbrite red pads and go over it, then im ready to shoot the paint. Thats why im fixing every little spot before i shoot the primer, even if its just the littliest whole, then i just use the puddy on that stuff. Well more pics will come and thanks for the comment. I have put alot of hours into this thing by myself in my garage but finally got some help yesterday which was nice.

It can bleed through newspaper, as well as tape. Plus thats more tape to pull off and possibly clean up after.
I use plastic. Its cheap and made for painting.

Either way it looks really good. You better post pics as soon as its done.

yeah if you look instead of posting that, you would have seen i did. I had to wetsand the inner door jams, so alls i have to do now is take water and a towel and clean the car one last time then i will shoot the primer. If you ever painted a car before you would understand.
