Well this weekend i spent painting my car pretty much. painted the drums and calipers on saturday, and sunday was painting the door handles/mirrors/door divider.
For painting the body pieces i first prepped the entire area off with tape and plastic bags( i luckily had large ones to cover most of the front of my car, then just used garbadge bags for the rest)
After taping everything off i sanded with 400 grit sandpaper, wiped clean with water, then used degreaser to remove any grease, oil etc.
Then i used dupli color primer, using light coats (i did about 4 coats very light, but eventually it covers it all)
I sanded after priming it with 400 grit again. then wiped clean with water and a rag. then using GM silver (bought at parts source) made by dupli color again. i did very light coats of paint, i did again about 4-5 coats.
i waited 1 hour before clearing the pieces, and did 4 very light coats of clear. eventually building up the clear to a nice glosss finish.
heres the pics(shown from primer, to paint, to clear coat):
everything taped off:
final product:
kickass....i've been wanting to do this for a while. i'm sure the write up will help
the mirror in the pic sticks out it doesnt look as dark of a silver as the rest of the car.
good job man, hopefully that paint holds up

well i used GM silver from duplicolor, it should be the same color. hopefully it blends itself into the car. the car also has 6 years of sun fade on it.
you shouldnt wait an hour to clear, it all holds together better if you do it right away, like 5-10 minutes, depending on the weather. and using light coats of clear will just make it a rough finish, you want a nice smooth finish, lay on the clear evenly, not to heavy. looks good though! Never seen the window b pillar painted.
should have left the sail black
and the b-pillar too
it doesnt look bad, but it looks better black
Did you wetsand anything?
Blew it up, build numbers coming soon
Why would you rattle can exterior parts of your car......? looking at the final product the paint doesn't match.
LOL You know that Piece on the door comes off in like 4 seconds........ lol you wasted a LOT of time.
Why did you paint it silver? Now it stands out, its supposed to blend in with the dark windows...
Handles and mirrors look good.
Thats what I wanted to do to my cav. Looks good man keep it up and thanks for the post.
2009 Ford Mustang V6
it doesnt look too bad but in the future you should look into getting the parts painted professionally and I would paint the inside of the mirror black as well as the b-pillar. But its your car.
Show some pics of your calipers and drums!
SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
