Bored=in-car vids with new camera

I was bored the other day and was browsing ebay and came across a few different helmet-cams. I love to waste money so I went ahead and bought one, I wanted something for in-car videos and my digi-cam wasn't cutting it. I paid $180 shipped for this little thing and I'm very happy with it. I haven't quite figured out where to mount it in the car yet, mainly because the microphone on it is very sensitive.

I made a few driving vids to show how quiet my exhaust is and how loud the whine of the supercharger is. For part of the video, I had a cameraman in the passenger seat and for most of the video the camera was mounted to the dash, right in front of the steering wheel. You can tell when I come to a stop because the camera shakes violently, due to my rksport lower mount and the turbotech upper mount. Its kind of amusing actually. You can tell how sensitive the microphone is because it picks up all the rattling noise. You can also tell how the vibrations go away as soon as you get on the gas. The camera seems to pick up sound better when its mounted in a solid location, so if anyone has any ideas where to mount it, I'm open to suggestions. My editing skills with windows movie maker suck, so thats why everything is sort of one after another.

I'm gonna play around with some other mounting locations for the camera tomorrow and see if I find a good spot for it.

here's a pic of the camera

Here's the link to the video. The sound isn't the best, but if you listen carefully, you'll hear the whine of the charger.
clicky for vid

can that camera take weather?

I make some videos of locals, and would love to use something like that as a chase cam, outside the car.

here's what I am using:

It works pretty good... Heres video from it:

it seems like the camera would be fine in the weather. the camera is actually water resistant and has rubber on it just about everywhere in case you drop it. On the packaging, it says that the camera works well for mountain biking, hang gliding, sailing, motocross, etc. Its pretty well protected. I was tempted to mount it somewhere outside my car, but in order to make the camera record/stop recording you have to physically push a button on the camera. There's no remote way to activate it. Thats why I'm looking for somewhere close to the driver seat area to mount it.

I like where your camera is mounted, how is it mounted there?

I had taken my mini tripod apart, and kept the base of it. Then all I had to do was put the screw that would typically mount the legs of the tripod to the base threw a hole I drilled in the defrost vent. Then just screw mount the camera. I have to keep something underneath the back of the camera so that it doesn't shake to violently. All in all, works really well. And it would only cost you about $10-15 to make your self. It will also hold a Digital camera.
