SEMA J-bodies Found?
Monday, June 04, 2007 12:49 PM
I know the images suck; bear with me...

During some downtime, I was driving around an area of MI, and came across a GM-owned company vehicle lot, used to distribute company cars to employees. Interestingly, there was quite a large lot behind it, and a flash of organce caught my eye.

That turned out to be the Buick Signia concept car sitting out in the open, right along the fence line adjacent to the roadway. But looking through the fence, I could see other cars of interest in there, including an odd 454SS truck (apparently tubbed), a C6 mule, SEMA Grand Prix, and some weird '90s Seville.

The ones you'll all care about are a few J-bodies in the lot. One's a silver 4-door Cavy with large wheels (18"?), ground effects, and a spoiler; there looks to be a yellow coupe behind it. The other is a bright red Sunfire coupe sporting projectors and a custom fascia, along with ground effects and large diameter wheels. I'm guessing these are (all) SEMA cars, but if anyone here knows for sure one way or the other, it's always appreciated.

I plan on going back and hopefully getting better pictures. No tresspassing was involved; all were taken from the public road running right past the lot. I'm trying to borrow a 200-300 mm lens for a Canon EOS; if I can, I'd be able to get some MUCH better telephoto shots.

the yellow one looks like ti could be the concept located on the front page of JBO. wonder if they're the ones who sold the kit recently. someone on JBO picked it up.

good find though

I don't think it is; the drag coupe on the JBO front page seems to have a flat spoiler; the one in the lot wears a curved bridge spoiler (think 35th Anniversary Camaro SS).

Wish I could sneak in and part some of these - I love the look of the silver sedan.

IIRC, the stolen cars were the Blue Sunfire and the Yellow "463" Cavalier (w/the hella projectors). The Blue Sunfire was recovered and the Cavalier was not...

could be wrong though.

Jeez, Joey; that's the car - the concept one, anyways. Identical to it.

Interesting about the parts - I'm going to all but confirm they're GM prototype parts. Schram's (the place who sold 'em) gets first dibs at normally unsaleable GM prototypes, and often parts them out. I remember seeing a lot of XLR pilots in their lot a few years back, along with a euro-spec CTS. They likely got that Xtreme prototype (again, not the concept).

So the concept's still intact - I did see the spoiler and rear facia on it; if it had been the one at Schram's, it'd be devoid of these altogether.

Z yaaaa: Sure thing, if you're paying my bail. I think a good 200-300mm lens is worth both the money and the lack of criminal record...

Actually the yellow cav looks like it has the turbo sport spoiler that pretty much everyone here would kill to have. If you could get better pictures that would be awesome. And ask whoever owns the lot if I can buy the spoiler off the yellow one LOL.

That would be GM. This whole lot (as stated in 1st post) is a GM-owned lot.

However, maybe I'll bribe someone to let me know if/when these are going to be scrapped, and try to buy some parts off 'em.

Thats definetly the YELLOW TURBOSPORT concept cavalier! Turbo ecotec, with custom bodykit which was later mass produced and marketed as the Xtreme Tuner bodykit by GM.

The Yellow kit that was sold by Schram Auto on ebay, whom was recently purchased by Sal Medina WAS NOT GM's TurboSport Concept kit. Sal had purchased the one off bodykit from the PROMO car that was used to market the Xtreme Tuner bodykit. Sal's kit is identical to the kit we could all buy, except his front bumper is a full replacement. The Xtreme tuner kit we could buy included a @!#$ty front bumper cover. His sides and rear are also indentical to the kit we could all buy.

The front and rear bumpers on this concept car are totally different. SO, this means you f'ing found the real TurboSport Concept cav!!! I can't believe it! I saved any magazines with this car, til this day its still my absolute favorite jbody ever. I still drool over it, I can't believe you found it just sitting in a lot somewhere!

I dont' know who's lot this is, but if it was Schram Auto that would be nice!!! I'd like to find out what is going to happen to this car, where is it heading? If there is ANY chance of getting that bodykit, I want it! That would be the ultimate find, a one of a kind GM turbosport concept kit, OMMFG sploooge!

Whoever you are I salute you, good luck with your next recon mission. Please get more shots of the yellow turbosport.

Have a good one,

-Travis

Looks like some other Js in the background too. Looks like a silver cav or fire behind the yellow one, and one next to the orange Sunfire.

Funny enough, about tht fire ... it's the I believe "american tuner" sunfire .. it's a 03 with 95-99 rear tails etc... and it's also the first J body with IRS, that car is what gave us the idea for the N body rear suspension swap in the first place ... it was also a prototype body kit that GM was gonna make available for us fire owners ... that god they didn' (insert puke smiley here). The projectors were one off pieces from hella ... also were supposed to go into production as well ... never did. Good find and more pics are a must
