Painted my tails...
Saturday, June 23, 2007 4:26 AM
Here's my semi-original paint job for my tails...I've seen cav's with everything on the tails painted except the circles, but I've never seen the outline that I did, they kind of look like the older style tails in a way...well let me know what you think!

Before...

After...

The process was a bit of a pain, trying to get the tape lines right, and looking back at it now there's quite a few mistakes, but I think it was pretty good for my first time attempting anything like this!...Even though one dropped and cracked and I ran out of paint on the other outer, so I had to drive around for a bit, with a tape covered and half painted tail for a while till I got some more.

The brakes also shine through the paint which is kinda cool, makes the paint dissappear at night.

Do you drive around fergus at all? I've seen a cav that has had the middle bar painted silver for a while, but the outers were red last time I saw it.

looks good, only 1 suggestion for future reference... you should have layed a layer of black down first so when the lights are on the light only shines through the circle. still looks good tho. keep up the good work

Honestly you did a GREAT job painting them, they look like a lot of time was taken to do and I like the detail paid in doing them BUT im not a fan of the 03+ rear tail lights at all so yeah....either way great work man.

Damn solid work! It looks like a very professional job from the photos, job well done. I'd say that's about the hottest thing I've seen done with that style of tail lights.

Thanks again for the comments guys...and Dougall I live in cambridge, but work in kitchener. If you recognize the car by the tail lights it's more than likely not the car you're thinking of I just did it this friday! But thanks for checkin it out I've always loved your cav!

What happened in the middle section where it looks wavy?

i would of ditched the 03+ outers for some 00-02 ones. and painted the whole inner bezel silver!

to give it that shaved innner look!

I think that wave came up when I was peeling off the chevy badge it was my first time taking off a badge and I guess the heat gun warped the plastic.

It looks so much better this way I think. You did a great job for sure. did the tail itself crack? or just the paint?

If I had a Cav, Id either get Toyo tails... or do THAT...

Sexy ass you got there.

nice work. It looks better than those sticker covers that you can buy, looks almost like a factory option. I like it

that doesnt work, because the 00-02 tails are flush to the body panels, and the 03+ ones arent. so he'd end up with the outers and inners not lining up at all.
