Latest Pick-ups, My first experience with Turbo Tech Racing

I've put together a decent pile of parts to go on my car again, so I'm going to do the customary thing and bore everybody on the forum with an update and some pictures.

My pile-o-stuff:

Upper mount insert and new-style TTR lower mount, courtesty of Turbo-Tech:

Set of "Suzuka" SS braided brake lines, courtesy of ACU Auto Parts on eBay

I also picked up a front Addco Swaybar, courtesty of Never Enough Auto. Since I'm running a base Cavalier with no existing bar, I had to drop another $15 or so on supplemental parts from my local GM dealer:

So how about my first experience at Turbo Tech? Well, let me tell you:

I decide I want some engine mounts, so on June 30th I place an order for the upper insert, and an RKSport dogbone mount. I get the customary confirmation Emails, and my order is set to ship by USPS (postal shipping) to Canada. I sit around an twiddle my thumbs for a few weeks, because I know this method of shipping can be pretty inconsistant -- I've learned to give some time for customs delays and the whole bit. It gets to be July 6th, and I finally pop them an Email. Aaron replies:

First I must appologize, for some reason the order was sent down to shipping, but it never shipped, we will get this out ASAP and email you the USPS tracking number, items are in stock. Also added 1000 points to your account, ($10.00 store credit on a future order) due to this mistake, I am truely sorry about this.

It will go out USPS Express Mail (3-5 business day delivery) so you should have them in hand next week.

Thanks
Aaron

Talk about a D'OH moment.

Anyways, as it turns out, besides doing more than I ever expected to try and rectify the delay, Aaron was also able to satisfy my request for an upgrade to one of the new lower mounts they had begun making, as you can see in the pictures. This no doubt complicated things further, and further added to the delay, but he went the extra mile.

Mistakes happen, and it takes a professional to take responsibility and make it right. I don't know how much other stuff from their company my car will ever deserve, but I'll definitely be back if I need something.

I like it when companies admit to their mistakes and try to fix them. Nice pick ups man.

booooooooo boooooooooooooo , waste of money on the insert

honeslty ida saved up to get ttr's upper mount also , the inserts are nice and they do work , but ttrs upper is alot better , and provides a little eye candy when the hood is open

nice collections of parts , now get busy and make the parts pile disappear

Wow, Thats the type of thing that sets companies like TTR, A plus, Car Customs, etc. apart from companies like Whiteboy (Do they even still exist? LMAO)

BTW, A pile of parts is only exciting! It would be different if you were one of the dumbass' that takes product images off line and say "look what I just ordered". Now thats a waste of a thread! Anyways, keep up the progress and make the pile bigger!

You're probably right, but I was already spending far more on my measly 2.2 OHV than I really needed to. The only thing you see under my hood is an engine that has never been cleaned, with a few maple keys stuck in the vents under the wipers. The main thing I was attempting to sort out is how much sloppy movement my engine exhibits at the moment. Watch this video if you don't believe me.

No, no... I paid the difference -- but Aaron still made that happen even after they were in a mad rush to get my original order out.

another reason i love TTR. great customer service. you will love that lower mount and the upper mount could have done that much more. good start and be careful with the brakes. they dont want to come off easy at all. even on my 04 it was rough.

GAH! Yes, you're right -- I'd ordered in May. I guess I'm still in denial about how long I'd waited.

Sounds like this could be fun. Good thing I'm wussing out and handing this pile to my local mechanic. I'll let him try to snap the ends off my hardlines.

Do tell? I'll admit all I've checked are online prices, but most places seemed to want almost twice that much.

We could have done the Russell ones for about $10.00 more than the ebay price... Not a big deal but they are a name brand...

Shoot... I probably would have gone for that, had I noticed them. Truth is that I've been sitting on these eBay lines since early Spring, so I didn't even think to check for them on your site.

LOL I just got back from speaking to my mechanic at lunchtime, and I mentioned that
Me: "some people were saying that [the lines] can be a real PITA to get loose."
Him: "Oh, they won't be a problem".
Me: "Hmm. One guy even said that he never could get his off, and his car's even a couple years newer than mine.".
Him: "Eh, he's a wuss".

Well, I'll hold him to that when I tries his luck Friday morning.

... and today I had everything installed.

First of all, the most embarrassing part -- sure, I haven't been under my car a whole lot, but you'd think I've have caught this before. I've always said that I've had an FE0 suspension setup. It turns out that's not quite the case, because I found this pesky thing while I was installing the Addco bar:

Oh well. An upgrade is an upgrade, and it made the install a bit easier anyways.

I also got the brake lines on without any problems. The brakes seem a good deal firmer, though I wouldn't mine a sticker pad next time around.

... and of course the new swaybar:

The TTR dogbone and upper mount insert also went in OK, and I'm still deciding exactly how I feel about them. The vibrations and noise DO transfer into the cabin much more readily, although I actually kind of chuckled the first time I pulled away because it makes the engine SOUND and FEEL a lot more substantial -- at least from inside the car. I kind of like that, even if it doesn't really mean a damn thing. I have a feeling the bushings will settle a bit with time, but the idle vibration started out pretty severe. The dash really bounces around. It already seems to be improving though.

As far as improvement in engine movement, I've prepared comparative videos. I just run the revs up to about 3000, and drop in into drive and reverse with the brake on. There is a clear difference over the worn stock mounts.
Before Video
After Video

Anyways, I think those were some good things to get out of the way.
