The System...
Wednesday, March 05, 2008 4:43 PM
Got my system installed, with help from a good friend of mine, and a little troubleshooting from my dad (had some electrical issues and he's an electrician...)

here they are, with (sorry about the quality) progress pics...

pulling the dash apart... forgot some screws...

testing before we start bolting...

And now the final piece.....

I did some modding and managed to get the harness to fit upside down... the wiring wouldn't fit otherwise...

The amp has some sweet internal lighting that you cant really see during the day...

These Kickers are old, but they still give a badass kick...

What they look like from outside...

No tickets yet, but we'll soon see....

Everything else looks pretty good otherwise.

That's the dumbest amp location I've probably ever seen. The back of the seat would have been a WAY better choice.

Wow I think I would mount that amp somewhere out of the way, there are much better places to put it.

Wow, definately wouldn't have ruined those panels by permanently mounting @!#$ to them.

Your CD player's dash kit looks to be upside down, I see you mention something being installed upside down but I've seen many decks in 2k+ Cav's.....you just have to tuck the harness in to get it to clear, or mod some of the plastic behind the deck. Installing the dash kit upside down looks a bit off and I wouldn't be too sure of the mounting now (can't tell how it's secured in those pics).

Basically I feel you didn't think this out worth crap, especially that amp mounting....to each his own though...

you really should have saved up to get better equipment.

Joe, unfortunately I feel you left out something,

Let's all wish the best of luck on those tickets.

Ya the amp location isn't awesome. Those are some old school Kicker subs. And I see the enclosure has those awesome swap meet tweeters in them. I'm not going to touch that.. Everyone has said enough...

I hate to revert back to my audio&electrical forum helping and ranting days... but you left me no choice.

Those old kickers, in a proper enclosure and set up right, MIGHT sound decent... in that little boom box BS setup you got there, I am thinking not. I gotta agree in the post above about the swap meet tweeters in there, and not wanting to realy touch this... but damnit I can't hold back.

Yes, we all start somewhere, but I would rather start with months of research and saving to get GOOD equipment and learning how to do an install, than starting with crap equipment and hacking my car up.

The head unit mounting kit upside down, doesn't look terrible, if that is your quick easy way of installing it, so be it.
The deck is a cheap, entry level Sony that will either stop playing cd's very soon, or most likely burn up the internal amp that you seem to be running your stock speakers on still. And like hell if any entry level sony deck is going to give you ANY kind of tuning or adjusting capabilities.

The Amp is another low end crap piece of equipment. I doubt you will even touch it's rated RMS power output, and am willing to bet they don't even tell you it's rated RMS output and just advertise some inflated peak power number.

If not sealed into the cabin completely pointing your subs forward does more harm than good. Point them backwards and see what you notice for a difference.

And finaly, A COMPLETE "system" is not a couple cheap subs, a cheap amp, a cheap deck, and some hack job, ugly, "steal me" install. A complete well rounded system post would have consisted of a decent deck with some options, at the very least 2 sets of pre-outs to run an amped sub or 2 in a box BUILT SPECIFICALY FOR THE AIRSPACE THE SUB(S) NEED. and if ported, tuned to get the most out of what your subs are made for, and your ears desire. It would also include an amped front stage with some components, usualy consisting of a 6.5 inch woofer, a 3/4-1 inch tweeter, and a crossover that makes sure each speaker plays the frequencies it's designed for.

All and all, I do not see a complete system in this thread, and I wouldn't recomend to anyone mounting an amp to a flimsy piece of plastic. Let alone in plain view in the passenger compartment.

One more thought out, slightly annoyed reply by someone who doesn't care how offended you get. So take it for what it's worth and don't make the rest of your thread crying about it.

You just screwed an amp to a panel that even at a junk yard would be about $50 or so.

Turn your subs around to face the rear, it will be louder.

If for whatever reason you intend on leaving the amp in it's current location. Here are some tips for you.

REMOVE THE PANEL from the Car.

Mount the amp to the panel. Make a few marks on the panel and DRILL some holes for the wires to go through.

Run the wires to the location behind the panel.

Fish the wires through the holes and REMOUNT the panel.

Mount the amp and hook up the wires. If you do that it might look OK. Atleast it will look better than what you have.

Also, you seem to have a 4awg power wire and a 8awg Ground. Please put a 4awg ground in there and make it as short as possible.

Some minor trimming to the Rear support of the factory dash would have allowed you to mount your dash kit properly.

1 last thing. You do know you could have PAID a professional to do it right the 1st time, right?

That enclosure IS MADE FOR THOSE SPEAKERS! Notice I wrote SPEAKERS! That was a FULL-RANGE Set up that KICKER made back in the DAY. So they are in the Correct enclosure.

They are just not meant to play SUB Fqs only.

I would unhook the tweeters so they don't get blown. That is about all.

Re: The System...

i hate how subs and a deck constitute a system nowadays...

i have a pair of JLs in my cav, but i dont claim to have a system, as i am still saving up for some good JL components and amps. i just say i havea pair of subs, not a system.

I agree with everyone . alltho I think you should just mount the amp on the drivers seat and sit on it all day ,cuz thats the only thing that the cheap amp is good other then using it as a seat warmer.

LOL Would anyone expect anything less from JBO when it comes to Audio???

I know well enough I have been here a few years and only been over to that forum once or twice, I'm rocking a Sony Head Unit and two Pioneer 4x6s in my doors, it keeps me calm in the staging lanes, but I know better than to come on here and try to flaunt it.

Dude that is an invitation for theft. When your car does get broken into the damage they do will be more than the stuff they stole cost new. Very bad idea.
