deja vu, import fighter take 2 (56k have fun)
Tuesday, May 20, 2008 10:48 AM
After taking the PA State Police cadet written exam Saturday morning, I made the trip out to York to see Mastin. He’s an awesome guy to deal with and he’s fun to BS with. I picked up this little gem.

I spent all day Sunday working on it and then finished it up Monday night after work. I decided to take over the garage at my mom’s house.

And here’s what the car looked like last year with the IF front on it

The front bumper still needs a little more tweaking to get it perfect, but it’s getting there.

I love the way that front bumper looks on the car.

Yeah, I'm not really happy with how it fits by the headlights, as you probably are too.

Not sure if there's anything that can be done about it since it's for the 95-99 & you had to trim it.

& then the wave underneath in the center, might try to mount a piece of flat iron to that to straighten it out?

I like it though!

Why did you get rid of the first IF bumper you had? I agree it looks good now in pics. How bad is it in person? If it were not for having to trim for the 00-02 headlights I would have one on my car.

I'm planning on grabbing some flat stock from work tomorrow to help fix the wave. I haven't really figured out a solution for the area under the headlights yet. I ran into that issue the last time I had the IF front. I think I need to get in touch with some of the body work gurus on here and see if there's a way to build in a ledge under the lights, just like the stock bumper has.

And if your bored with it, stop messing with the exterior and make it faster

Yeah, maybe build it up with some urethane Lord Fusor or something?

Found this with a quick Google search for ya!

Quote:

Urethane bumpers can be repaired. If it is badly torn it will need to be welded back together. Yes, I said WELDED. They make a special welding gun that effectively melts the urethane back together. If you live in a larger city or more populated area there is probably a shop around that does this. You can also order the welder and do the job yourself if you are pretty competent with hand tools.

The bumper is welded from the back side and you will fill the front side. Use a body filler specifically formulated for Urethane bumpers as they are designed to flex just like the bumper. You must also follow the preparation instructions to the letter. Generally cleaning the surface with a non residue degreaser and sanding the entire fill area with the correct grit of paper.

Properly done a urethane bumper can be made as good as new. I have even seen guys take two bumpers that were damaged on opposite ends and cut them down into one good new bumper.

They have several products that fit the bill. You can also get a mesh backing if it needs some structural reinforcement.
