how to destroy your TTR k- brace

short answer: drive over the Tappan Zee Bridge, Jersey bound with it mounted upside down (or the way autos have to run it) so i guess u can consider this a warning to the auto guys out there lol.

driver's side

pass. side

just for kicks.

ok so heres the story on this. i was driving back home across the tappan zee bridge, from new york. for those of you who dont know its a decent sized bridge which is having some construction done. being as how its very used bridge and i guess its hard for them to just up and pave the damn thing all at once, they use raised steel plates to cover some of the larger potholes. very big, immovable plates. well the ones on the jersey bound side span the entire width of the bridge, which is 3 lanes. theres currently a section thats got a 4ft wide plate across all 3 lanes, then it drops about 3 inches to the metal teeth that birdges have which is about another 4 feet wide, then theres another steel plate aprox the same size as the first one which raises back up 3 inches or so. annnd because my TTR k- brace was mounted the same way the auto's need to mount em it hit the steel plate and it caused this mess.
im actually amazed at the beating the damn thing took only broke in one spot, and it was a weld that held on a mounting tab on the driver's side. other than that everything just bent, and the powedercoat didnt crack or chip at all. mad props to Turbo Tech and their powdercoater!
ironic thing is that if i had gotten home early enough in the day, i was going to take the brace off for the winter, and then because i now have the tools in whch to do it, i was going to remount it in the spring the CORRECT way for manuals... such is life.
i got a new wall trophy outta the whole experience, so its all good.

o and i will be purchasing another one in early spring to replace this one only it will be mounted the right way. haha.

yea pretty much just the front mounting tab broke off on the driver's side, and the rear bolt on the same side got pulled completely out of the subframe, but a bigger washer will solve that poblem easy. i did get really lucky. it coulda been a hell of a lot worse

im sorry but if you really thought that it would actually last hanging that low then you get no sympathy from me.

and FYI... all powdercoating should stand up to that kind of abuse. if it doesn't.. it wasn't done right.

its mounted the same as the autos have to mount it, so i wouldnt expect anything more or less than what its supposed to do (which it did exceedingly well). wasnt really surprised that it happened, just more bummed at the time than anything. it actually lasted for around 6 months of the same driving in the same area without a single incident. had i not even taken the Tappan Zee home it never woulda happened and the brace woulda came off the very same day, only to be mounted properly in the spring. meh o well. @!#$ happens

Wow well I guess that answers my question of how it would hold up against that type of abuse. Yea i was wondering what kind of damage would this do to the underside of the car not just the brace. What other suspension are you running as in how low are you?

believe it or not i wasnt moving any faster than 5 or 10 mph. physically couldnt move any faster than that, it was very heavy traffic due to the construction and stuff. and yea it was a nightmare getting across that bridge even without this little incident.

Around here the industry calls is Powder Paint.

What do you call it?

This process takes Powder, which is really a type of plastic, and melts it. It "coats" the part, the same way "wet paint" coats a part.

Why dont you call it "wet coating"?

Going on it is just like a "coating" you can get on a piston (ceramic/molly).

Bottom line... Does it really matter? Everyone knows what it is refering to. Just like you said "soda" and "pop" same thing IMO.

That's the reason I didn't buy one and I would have to mount it like that since I have a manual with factory mounts. I love the design aspect, but unfortunately not for me.
