Well I don't have an Eco, but it looks like it would be a mount for the water pump.

Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

I DO have an Eco...and I don't see anything that even resembles that on my car Lol....of course I wasn't UNDER the car so that may be why. Was your eco out of something other than a cavalier/sunfire?

thats the power steering pump mount for an ecotec out of a solstice.

that engine won't work in your car.

got pictures of the valve cover, so I can confirm its a 2.4 LE5 ecotec?

the reluctor ring on the crankshaft is the wrong tooth count and won't work with the jbody ECM

Enough time and money, it can work....but it's going to take a hell of a lot of modification for that. Of course...nothing a RWD conversion couldn't hurt either

yes, but this is not what the OP is looking for. Its almost a given that he's using the swap info in the third gen forum, in which case it DEFINITELY will not work because again, the ECM issues.

2.4 also has VVT
a "hi-res" 58x reluctor ring (60-2 pattern vs the 6+1 pattern -or- 7x of the jbody ring)
and some of them came with the block mounted oil cooler, like the LSJ which causes interference problems with the F23 transmission (not sure on the auto) and, also blocks the radiator hook up for the driver side of the engine... although this wouldn't really be noticed on the 2.4, because its thermo-housing is shaped differently than the Jbody ecotec.. although I have noticed that any thermo housing other than the L61 seems to not fit our transmission.
also, the 2.4 head doesn't have the mounting boss for the power steering pump... the 2.4 came in cobalts which have electro-power steering, and the solstice has the above pictured belt-driven power steering pump. (the cam driven power steering pump ala L61 and 2.4 LD9 style wouldn't clear the firewall in the solstice).

so I reiterate, this engine will not work in the jbody.. especially since its easy to assume that the OP is, again, following the information in the third gen forum about how to swap in an ecotec.

the 2.4 block WOULD work, but you'd have to hybrid-ize it with an L61 head and other L61 parts to get it to fit the mechanical components of a Jbody.. and after all this you would still have the problem of the 2.4 reluctor ring pattern being wrong.. which is an unprogrammable parameter in HPT.

on a side note.. I AM working on a replacement reluctor ring that would work on the port injected hi-res engines (later model L61s, LE5s, and LSJs) that would allow you to use it in the jbody.. the only downside is you would have to disassemble the engine to replace the ring inside (it bolts up on the later model ecos) and then reassemble it.

Thats an L61, you have the correct engine, thankfully. Pretty sure its a 2005? looks like it since there's a lack of the EGR triangle.. (at least from what I can see anyway)

thats really weird though, that bracket should not be there. You can remove it and discard or sell it.

if it was an LE5, the crank pulley would have a second smaller pulley attached to it that would drive the power steering pump....

like that.

Its weird because all my ecotecs were originally in automatic equipped cars (they came with flexplates, not flywheels), and I've never ever once seen that bracket, not even in diagrams.

learn something new everyday.
