HELLO A NEWBEE HERE I AM THINKING OF USING A 2.2 ECO IN AN OFFROAD CAR.MY QUESTION IS ARE THE VIN NUMBERS ON THE CAR THE SAME AS THE NUMBERS ON THE MOTOR. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THE MOTOR IM GETTING IS THE MOTOR THE SELLERS SAY THERE SELLING. ALSO IN THE 2002 - 2005 CARS ARE THEY ALL ECOTECS.
THANKS AHEAD FOR THE RESPONSES

Turn your caps lock off...

In 2002 there were 3 motor options, the 2200 OHV, 2.4L LD9, and 2.2L Eco. The numbers on the engine may match a VIN, but I haven't found the VIN on the engine yet (at least not on mine), so it may not. The Eco engine has a silver and black cover on top, and clearly says Ecotec in the center. It also has the throttle body in the front of the engine and exhaust manifold in the back.

If it doesn't say 'Ecotec' or '2.4L Twin Cam' on top of the engine, you don't want it.

The 2200 says it on the airbox over the throttle body, which is on the back side of the motor. Headers come off the front of the 2200.

I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but at least I'm a pretty color

I also forgot to ask if anyone knows what kind of numbers or other markings would be on the motor to identify what year the motor is.
thanks Bob

All the J's (most if not all GM cars do) have Delphi computers.

Shifted
I have talked to some companies that sell complete ecos ready to run with just a 5 wire hook up to use them in any aplication. they all tell me that they use a delphi computer but they say its not the factory unit. They want $1200 for the unit and a wiring harness that would plug right in to a eco. i just dont want to pay $1200 for a stock computer that i can get from a junk yard for $200. does any one know if there is a way to wire the factory one to work without all the smog stuff?
