Are the Saturn Ion and Chev Cobalt "sister" cars ?
Friday, July 15, 2005 8:19 AM
I went into the Chevrolet dealership in Fredericton New Brunswick and test frove a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt LS. When the wife and I got back to talk to the salesman I told him I like it. He then said that he is glad that the "cobalt isn't anything like the Saturn Ion". I asked him why that is,and he stated that the Ions are junk. He said that they've been having nothing but problems with the Ions. When I stated that I was pretty sure that they are sister cars, he pretty much changed the subject. Any views on this guys. Help me out here : - )

I guess you can say "sister" cars. They are on the same platform just like how cavaliers and sunfires are on the same platform.

When he said they are crap, I think he means saturns on parts that they made but as far as motor goes, they have the same exact motors/trannys...so that statement would make no sense and he would need to watch what he says. He probably just said that to you just to make a sale, the cobalt is probably more expensive than the Ion.

I'm confused.. All parts made for Saturns are from GM or AC Delco. What parts do you mean, body panels or something? Cuase all engine sensors and parts are the exact same. Only Saturn parts that are not GM is a 3.5 Honda engine in the Redline Vue.

Sounds to me like the salesman just was giving BS to make you not want an Ion, since they have bigger sales than Cobalts.

I agree, they are all the same parts. I'm just saying maybe thats what he is refering too. Most people consider the mid 90s Saturns as crap cars because of their design but those things are still running on the road.

They are sister cars. Just like the Firebird and Camaro were and the Sunfire and
Cavalier were.

And I thought the pursuit was in Canada only. They don't sell them down here, do they?

Chevy Cobalt is the same as Pontiac Pursuit, and yes, they're only in Canada.

I'm pretty certain the Ion is built on a different platform... because none of the parts from an Ion will swap to a Cobalt!!!

No the Ion, Cobalt and I guess the Pursuit are all "A" body cars. There built on the same chassis.

no, its the delta platform......

and although the ION and the cobalt are on the same platoform the cobalt does boast better and quieter interior than the ion

ive drove both, and for some reason the cobalt feels like a better car, although personally i like the ION coupes better

97cavy22, jackalope is correct. They are A body cars but their platform is called Delta

Thank you Killa. I get tired of saying the same thing over and over again.

Tha whole "A" body delta chassis thing was discused here a while ago. And where yes
they are refered to as a delta chassis car there proper name given to them by G.M. is
in fact "A" body. I have yet to here anyone refer to the new GTO as a kappa chassis car
its a "v" body car.
