Going to Iraq, and will come back with about 10 grand.
I want to know the best set-up for the 2001 2.2 Cavalier Coupe for power and speed would be. I will have enough money to suffice total engine (stage 3) rebuild and a stage 3 turbo with intercooler, plus it will cover a trans rebuild. That will make a very powerfull car, but I was thinking about buying a old wrecked 3.1 Z24 and its trans to swap with the one in my car now. Was the old Z24 a front or rear drive? Did they make a supercharger for that engine? Should I stick to the engine and trans I have now? Please give web addresses reguarding where to find the prices, and if any of you guys and gals live in NC let me know where I can find a good shop.

Not to insult 2nd gen guys but that 3.1 V6 motor isn't all that impressive. I'm sure if you rebuild it properly it can be a beast but it's really your decision. You would also be spending more money on engine parts being that you have more cylinders and a bigger motor.

All Jbodies are FWD

I believe the only way to boost those vehicles are to turbo it...if there is a company that makes a charger for it, I've never seen a kit. You can ask in the 2nd gen forum about that.

It's really up to you. If you stick with the motor you have now, you can rebuild the motor and purchase a turbo setup and possibly upgrade your tranny (clutch & flywheel) with that $10,000. You would have a very impressive 2.2 OHV. If you do decide to do that, contact Jbody Performance and check their site out for all the parts you need. They have everything you would need to rebuild that sucker.

Let's stay on topic here, we only need to express our opinions on the car situation, right?
I would take that 10k and buy an ecotec 05 cavalier special value package, with a 5spd.
Start there.
Then, take the cavalier you have now, sell it and use that money for a super charger for the ecotec.
Still have not had that much input on what to do, and in the mean time, I have found another option. A Fiero V-6 switch with my Engine now. What do you guys think? Also, the money will probably go over the 10,000 mark. I am getting a 200 dollar a month increase come the 1st.

I would save the money, dont waste it all on a car. My brother made a smart move while his friend made a stupid move, my brother saved all his money and put it in a bank account that couldnt be touched for 5 years and he is gaining interest like crazy. On the other hand his friend spent all his money on a car and now has no money left that he earned while in the sevice. He has none of that money left.So be smart and save the money. Dont blow it all on a car. You can buy a better car later. save it and invest it.
put that money in the bank, let it compile interest.
then u wont have to worry about living check to check and u have a good down payment on a house
dont waste your money on a cavalier 2.2 base model for gods sake!

Fiero V6, like the 2.8? I would highly recommend against it. Me being a Fiero owner, I know it costs a good bit to get a fiero 2.8 going well. They came with 130 horses stock. If I were you and determined to keep the car you have now, do an ecotec swap. It'll be the most simplistic, durable, and a lot spunkier (is that a word? :~) than your 2200. You can do an ecotec swap for around 3 grandish, add another 2500-3 grand and get yourself some internals and boost, and give the rest to me
Beat it like it owes you money
so let me get this straight....one guy bought a car and had fun with it for years to come and the other guy put all his money in an account that he cant touch and is now living off ramen noodles for the next 5 years ...did i get the just of it??? ...more money can be made..youthful years of your life you CAN NOT get back so you should have fun.......not that i didnt get the point of the comment made but done say that its a stupid decision if its what someone really wants....

Thanks for the support Scott Trent. I found something bad a@@ at this web site [URL=http://sites.rapidus.net/lheureum/z24sc/modifications.html[/URL] , and it is only 2500 american for the parts. That is insane. By the way, are you going to be there Scott?

I though that you might have said on the east region forum that you were showing at the NC meet. I can't go though, got a call from the mom, bit**in about seeing me before I go to Iraq.

By the way, that web site that I posted was a 3800 Series 2 Supercharged V-6. There are some videos on there to. One bad a@@ cavy, thats for sure. Check it out if you guys can, and tell me what you think. Oh, and 5300 Canadian dollars translates into 4400.11 dollars for US. Pretty good for including labor, but will the guys in the US give me the same price?

yo can get a 5 speed ecotec for less then a grand on ebay
i did
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7993669409\
and if would save you a load of money if you do the swap yourself like Im going to do
you can custom make a turbo kit for around 500 depending if you know how to weld and cut sheet metal for the manifold
and you can get a t3/t4 out the junk yard for 75-175
so you could be pushing around 200hp on an ecotec engine for a little less then 2 grand . If you have all the tools and knowledge to do the swap and custom turbo
um, please explain why he would want to throw out a 140hp engine and pay 1000 for another 140 hp engine?? wouldnt it be just as good to get the turbo for the existing engine and turbo it???
"Freedom 'ought to have its limits"-George W. Bush may 31 1999 (who voted for this idiot?)
2200 doesn't have 140 it comes with 115
and the 2200 is a single cam engine and it just can't handle as much power as the ecotec
perhaps....but i still think your missing the point....hes asking whats the best engine to start with if he wants to build an engine for real performance..hes even asking about swaping in a v6..and you suggest investing 2grand in an ecotec and custom turbo just to get 200 hp? for a QUARTER of that he could pick up a w41 with a CAI and have 200hp N/A! ...and he could still turbo on top of that! and since hes in NC i know a yard personally that has one. ... but thats just my opinion
"Freedom 'ought to have its limits"-George W. Bush may 31 1999 (who voted for this idiot?)
I never looked it like that
i was just saying what i would do with that money
but he could also do the 3800 supercharge swap that only cost about 6 grand
He Scott, what are you talking about?
Quote:

What is that?
I have really been looking at this 3800 V-6, and it will fill up all of the engine compartment, which makes things very hard to work on. I have a shop down here in NC that say they can make my 2.2 in to a 300-350bhp monster for 4100 cash. That is two days of work for them, plus it is right here about 20 miles from my house. Then I can put on the Stage 3 Turbo kit snd Intercooler by myself and be pushing a est. 450hp. So it is less money for more power out of just my engine than the 3.8 V-6 SC. I don't even know the prices for the swap now anyways. If I do allot of the engine work myself on the 2.2, then it will save some money (est. 2000 big ones). What do you guys think about that?
By the way Scott, you missed out on the get together with the boys at NC capitol. I went, we raced, I lost, video to prove, but had some fun. If you want the video that I made, then post your E-Mail, or shoot me one at schneidermichael2@yahoo.com

He Scott, what are you talking about?
i assume your talking about the w41? the w41 quad4 came with 190 hp stock and bolts up the same as a 2.4 twin cam. if you want to do the 3.8 swap im not gonna stop you, thats a badass swap..but im still debating whats better and i need to see numbers on both unfortunetly mine isnt ready to dyno yet..point being...the w41 makes 190 but can also be stroked..add a cai and a GOOD exhaust, maybe some lightweight pulleys and the right internals i think itll reach over 250 n/a fairly easy..then can turbo after that..and if its weighs less than 3.8 wouldnt it be better? but like i said , i dont have any numbers yet to prove this and i dont know just how strong the 3.8 can get...your gonna have to really sit down and think about this cus this is gonna cost you a pretty penny..either way..if your intent on investing this much i wouldnt stick with your stock 2.2 ....you want something alittle stronger to start ya know
"Freedom 'ought to have its limits"-George W. Bush may 31 1999 (who voted for this idiot?)
Well, can you show me a link to the info on a W41, who made it? What car was it in? Is it going to be hard to work with because of my trans pattern? How much does it cost? Plenty of questions, 7 months to contemplate. But what do you think about what I put in about the 2.2? The guys are professionals, and they said that it is possible and will work, just will have to do some trans work with the gears.
