Aftermarket Steering Wheel
Tuesday, September 27, 2005 10:03 PM
I got into a fender bender about a year ago at 25 mph and my airbags came out. I am planning on installing an aftermarket steering wheel. If anybody has done this, i have a few questions for you
-does the cruise control still work?
-blinker still automatically click off?
-install the hub and wheel yourself?

Victor, the cruise shouldn't have anything to do with the steering wheel itself if it's on a stick. the only way i can see it NOT working is if it's physically attached to the wheel itself (many Fords have this setup).

mikec2003, how hard is it to install the wheel and hub yourself? i wouldn't even know how to take off my stock wheel. i want to be careful cause the wheel is probably something i wouldn't want to mess up cause its an important part of driving

its easy really, disconnect your battery, pull the airbag fuse, hold the brake pedal for a few seconds to discharge any residual electricity, unbolt the couple of bolts behind the wheel that holds on the airbag, remove and unplug the airbag, undo the big nut on the wheel, get a wheel puller, and pull the factory wheel, remove the airbag clockspring

to install, put the hub adapter on, tighen the nut, and put the wheel on the hub, pretty easy, only thing is to make sure the new wheel is straight when you put it on so it looks right, like so its not offcenter when the car is straight

No need to pull the airbag fuse if the bags are popped...
