I am really wanting to boost my car but will have to save $$$ first.. My car is stock right now and i am wondering what upgrades i should do that wont have to be changed when i go to boost. Example...go straight to 2.5 exhaust. would i have to change air intake? just trying to not waste money.
thanks

just save up the money till you have enough to boost if your not wanting to replace anything. and you contradicting your self as well by saying you are wanting to turbo it and have to save the money for it. well if you get mods even just basic bolt ons your not saving money your spending it. easier said then done tho lol. i wouldnt go with exhaust any bigger than 2 1/4 until you turbo it you will lose power. just stick with bolt ons if your wanting to spend the money before the turbo.intake just get a wai, tb, if its a stick short shifter if auto shift plus. things like that hope that helps

Well first, what type of boost are you looking to do? Turbo or Supercharger?

In my case, I am preparing for boost and I have the following that will be great for boost:

62 MM Throttle Body
Patriot Performance Stage II Head
2 1/2" Exhaust System

Those are the major modifications that I have done. Now, even though I'm not boosted yet, they have GAINED me power while I am Naturally Aspirated (N/A). They might not be the best modifications for the time being but it will not make you lose power.

Also, I would highly suggest you reading the Full ECOTEC Build Guide...that will help you out alot in parts, products & companies available for your ECOTEC motor.

If you have anymore questions, just ask...good luck.

well if you do exhaust your header will end up being obsolete, most likely any cold or warm air intake aswell. Cant go wrong with motor mounts, ignitions are always good, maybe spend the money for the MSD DIS-2 with boost retard, so when you do go boost you can retard the timing at higher PSI. You could invest in suspension, a new clutch, lighter flywheel. etc. Most people will tell you the same thing they told me when i was in your shoes 3 years ago, since it will probably take awhile to get the money (as it did me) do your research. Research it as much as you can til your a boost expert, then you'll go into it prepared for the problems that arise, and you'll know exactly what you need. Thats what i did, and i built my car in a weekend

Yeah, when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to i just kind of stuck with stuff i knew would help no matter what, auto trans, brakes, and im about to drop a grand on coilovers and a new is next TB after that as well as things that cory said, like motor mounts etc etc. I plan on saving a bunch and doing the exhaust and mild boost all at once.

I'm really trying to work it so that i pick up things that i want as they come along through the GP , or for a good price in the classifieds. just my two cents...

Oh another thing i forgot to mention, and this goes for pretty much everyone who's looking to do work on their car, the best advise i can give is do the work yourself. You'll save tons fo money, and you'll learn so much more. If you have the capability, do it. Its completely worth it, because when something breaks, if you cant fix it, at least you'll know what the problem is.You want to know how it all works, And the best way to learn is by doing, don't take a bunch of crap to a shop, pay them out the a@@ and drive around like your a tuner. Build it yourself and you'll be a mechanic in no time.Plus people like me will respect you more

prepare for boost:
I would do

engine mounts
2.5-3" exhaust (depending on how boosted you will be)
syntetic oil
premium gas
spark plugs <--- research on good ones for turbo
additives for the gas and oil (to clean engine)
a good brake kit
