if you like youe engine don't do it. if you want to make one get a custom exhaust company to bend some pipe for you order the connectors you nee online. their is one connector out there that is suppost to help separate the water from the air before it goes to the engine, the problem with pvc is it can't really stand the heat and dust particles from the pipe can get sucked into your cylinders.

Doesn't PVC release toxic fumes when heated?

yeah, but so does your engine, exhaust is toxic too....who cares, do you suck on your intake pipe?

Agree, it will look better and you won't look dumb.... It's a good idea to do it yourself, but if it's to get laughed at each time you pop the hood.....

Thats fine, the big coupler they use for it i have used in the past its about $3. As long as you use Black PVC piping, you wont have to worry about fumes. Its the white pipe you need to stay clear of.

And for the folks whom are worried it wont look pretty: WHO CARES! If you get the performance increase, who cares what it looks like, as long as it works, and works safely.

You miss understand. Yes your exhaust is toxic, and if you breath a little in, it may make you sick, and alot can kill you. But when WHITE PVC piping heats up, it creates a nerve gas. All you need to do is have your car at operating temps, Open your hood for some reason and breath normal, And unknowningly breathj in those fumes, and it will screw you up.

Same effect for those people who like to snort Starter fluid, or aersol cans.

Nice intake Mario, maybe you don't care about having plumber's pipes under the hood, but I prefer to just stick with a cone filter at the end of the stock intake than to have that..... Better save some cash and buy a cheap intake on ebay OR a used one, they all do the same thing......

you guys do know a lot of PVC is rated by heat too right? I don't remember which it is the 40 or 80 but one is rated for temperatures above operating temp of your engine. But it is still retarded to use PVC for an intake.

The black is rated above operating temps of a car. Not white. This is one of the reasons you dont put a hot water pipe inside a White PVC pipe in the ground, Or anywhere for that matter. Its not good.

The time that it will take to make this don't worth the little money you're saving.

Opps forgot something.

My intake is plastic, Iceman Intakes are plastic. Stock intake manifold on 2200's and most saturns are plastic.

Why?

Because the intake charge will be colder then its meatl bretherns, and its lighter.

Re: DIY Cold Air Intake

I know plastic tend to be colder...as for the pvc lighter than alu I highly doubt it. Stock intakes weight a ton if you compare them to aftermarket ones. A "pvc cold air intake" will weight twice as an aftermarket one. You have a warm air, a lot shorter, but still heavier than my complete cold air..

LMR, I'm almost positive some white is rated above operating temp, it is used for hot water all the time.

Some white pipe, but very little. But think about this: How hot does water come through the pipes? And how hot does your engine get between the valve cover and the exhaust manifold?
